this crazy week............

well I knew it would start crazy because after the trip suddenly it was Monday again. whoosh!  everything went smoothly enough this week. classes Monday and chest day at gym after work, then when I got home couldn't wait to start putting my plants into the ground in various places... Tuesday also good, but I made the decision to NOT go to the gym and stay at work to get papers graded, the ones I hadn't finished on the plane. that way when I got home I could play in the yard more. ha
Wednesday, also good, handing papers back, went to gym after work, swam laps, worked legs, drove home and then..............
while in the left lane halfway through town on the highway, my truck suddenly just quit. the engine just shut off.  I coasted along back over to the right lane and with the truck in neutral tried to start up again. it tried kicking over but would not start back up. ughhh. ha I called the tire place near me where I always get an oil change. they gave me a number of a tow truck and they were there within ten minutes. $70 for that. left my truck there and walked home (it's blocks away).  This morning my parents came to pick me up and take me to work. ha! i was lazy getting going this morning, and then my parents were a bit early so only one bowl of cereal, not two. :(
the tire place called later to say it was a bad inertia sensor near the fuel pump?? and the only one they could find was in TN to replace it. that means MONDAY.  my buddy Scott was waiting to hear if he'd be picking me up from work or not, so I called and let him know. I planned to get a rental car from Enterprise. I'd scheduled a 3:30pm pickup from work, however they never came, I called the actual local place who informed me that my location at work was outside there pick up zone, the lady on the phone center did not mention that at all. I wasn't happy, but I found a friend who was on his way home and in the same direction. The Enterprise guy was going to find me a closer place to pick me, but I explained I needed to come there since I lived north which would be easier for the drop car off etc.. well anyway, I have a rental until Monday, so yeah, I'm ready for the weekend, but won't be driving much anywhere. ha. I did not get the extra insurance so i plan to keep driving down to here and there only. dinner plans with S and his hubby B tomorrow night, and my vet friend will be driving her and I to Stillwater Saturday to a nursery we go to every year, this year she'll stock up, I wont' get as much since my big Portland weekend HORTLANDIA experience. ha ha.
bring on the weekend!
I'm also considering a trip to DC next all maybe? the guy I met a year ago, our second "date" here in OKC lives there and he didn't come home for Easter this year so maybe if I'm in DC we can meet up again.  Also Mike wants me to visit CA and/or Mexico so that also on the list. :P   work work work play play.ha

portland pics..........

Portland wear................

I wore the first outfit to Portland and had the rest packed in my carry on bag. I packed another carry on in the bag with tape and packaging etc for the trip home.  This worked well as I was able to use the larger carry on as my check in full of plants on the way home and the smaller one as my carry on with clothes and everything else on the return flight.  first photo is my new Sanuk's that go wildly well with the Norse Projects super comfy fleece ad the my standard jeans and plaid shirt.  Once I'd arrived in Portland and chilled at the airbnb a while, I showered up and changed into the second photo, It shows the marginal blue sweatshirt I got a few weeks ago from Norse Projects.  I'd made plans to meet a college friend who lives on 31st and Alberta, we had dinner and caught up for about 3 hours?  the next morning I wore the third pic, but I wore a solid long sleeve tshirt to the plant sale, and only later in the day when I left to run around Portland did I put on the striped shirt, again something new from Norse Projects and it fits perfectly for my longer narrow frame.  it was a joy to run around Portland with layers and jackets as it was still cool and spring like. had the best time!  Coming home on the plane just same stuff, jeans, the solid long sleeve shirt mentioned earlier and the slip on shoes and fleece.  clean underwear and undershirt of course. ;)

is school out yet?.................

Portland day 3 (last Sunday)....

I was up SO late Saturday night, well maybe 11:30pm and I really had to make myself stop talking to my host Saturday night. because like I said I will talk non stop when I'm that tired and up later. whoah.
Sunday morning I woke up by 8am  and caught up online emails, got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast and then to start packing up all my plants. I had some small boxes that fit into my luggage side by side. I took most of them out of their pots, shook dirt off, and wrapped in a wet paper towell, then saran wrap. puzzle pieced them all together and got most everything packed. I left a few behind that I had picked up at a grocery store the day before.  I didn't want my luggage (my favorite Monocle/Porter weekender) to get messed up being checked in, so I had a sort of Mexican style zip up plastic woven market bag over it. worked great!  by the time I finished 930 or 10 or so, I got all my things ready down stairs and ready to load up. then I went and sat back down in the kitchen at my laptop and also to write a few post cards.  My airbnb host was in the kitchen also making some deviled eggs for his family thing.  I asked him why he wasn't wearing an Easter suit and tie. ha ( you know how hot muscle guys look suited up?) anyway, he had on a nice pair of nicely fitted dress shorts and a polo. damn his ass in those! I mean the view while I was facing the kitchen on the opposite side of the table chatting with him, the view from behind or side view, both sides. This guy can't stay single for long, come on all you outdoorsy triathalon fit gay guys in OR, find this guy!
while talking about stuff, I mentioned again my friend W from the night before and it turns out they work at the exact same school. no way! ha so we were saying what a small world etc.  I appreciated the conversation. his eyes and smile so nice. I know he was being kind and hospitable as an airbnb host but still it was good conversation.  he was unsure of what spice to use on the deviled eggs since he was out of Paprika, ha so he went with something allspice instead.  Guys with a calm serious nature drive me crazy sometimes (in a good way). My personality is such that I just want to talk all the more and draw them out. sigh... I know he's not all work and super dedicated training, because I noticed a lot of beer glasses in the cupboard and a lot of frozen ones in the freezer. good to know he can work hard and play hard too. I'll definitely recommend his place as a good stay for airbnb. I had planned to leave a little book behind just for kicks since I'd bought a few at the store the day before. but I couldn't figure out how to leave it in the room for him to find and then since i had it downstairs and he was upstairs at some point, I just left it on his fridge to find.  I figured he keeps things in such order he was sure to notice and find it.
I let by 11 to return my rental car and get to the airport for my 130 flight.  It was a simple last trip. just head east on Columbia Blvd and turn northon 82nd to the airport, but along the way I thought, hey I need to gas up this care, then I thought oh, I'll just turn south instead on 82nd into the city and find a quick gas stop. wrong! ha ha.. 82nd south turned into some major highway and when I exited it turned into another highway, and suddenly I was slightly panicked ha and freaking out and lost. ha ha I saw a 122nd st exit and got off. thank goodness for Mt. Hood so I knew what direction the airport was in.  I drove into a gas station, yes! gassed up and asked a guy there who said, just keep driving on this road and the next few lights it hits airport way. whew! returned my car, to airport, on the plane and off to Salt lake.
I sat by a window graded papers and re watched "Fantastic Beasts....." again , dozed a little. sat by some lady who read a book.  I was surprised to see Salt Lake City, my first time, and the size of the lake(s). wow!  on the way home from Salt Lake to OKC, I sat next to this tall lanky built guy, an oil worker out in Sayer OK from Boise ID. he had been there ten days visiting family, friends, and his teenage kids.  He has some nice big hands, a harley cap on, some random tshirt and jeans. bearded scruffy and actually nice looking in a way, he played a bunch of those candy whatever games and such on his phone most f the time, later we talked quite a bit and he mentioned he didn't like flying at all.  I asked him about Boise and he really went on about how many people keep moving there to live and how awesome it was with so much outdoor stuff to do all around and the rivers, and as he explained all the geography of the city and all the rivers and the state of ID he used his hands to draw a map on the back of the seat in front of him pointing where things were and went.  I figure as an oil guy he knew a lot about geography and such?  He showed me a pic of a deck he built around his place in Sayer on his phone. as soon as the plane landed he was gone! had anoterh 2 hour drive. ugh.
I came home and unpacked everything and CRASHED into bed.
whooshs, what a sweet wild wonderful weekend. I loved every bit of it.  I hope to get back and drive around and hopefully if it's another off and on rainy day, see lots of everything, and hoepfully get outside the city to the trees and hillsides and nature all around. I even googled community colleges in Portland the next morning.ha. til next time! :)

how am i not myself....

2nd day in Portland

well the time zone change had me waking up pretty early Saturday morning.  I wasn't too sure about the host of my place because while on my computer Friday I just sort of noticed some girl walk by with a back pack to the back room. I couldn't decide if it was a friend or gf of my host or whether he'd come in the night before etc?  I was up by 730 , after blogging and checking some special things online which always helps me fall back asleep ;). got up and dressed and downstairs to eat a couple of bowls of cereal as I researched exactly the roads to take and places for breakfast and decided on a cafe on Denver st in the little downtown area of the neighborhood, next showered and dressed and was out of the house. I had chosen that area of Kenton since it was just south of the EXPO center.
stopped at the diner and couldn't decide between the scrambled eggs with ham, feta cheese, and mushrooms or the pancake with poppy seeds and almonds. so I just ordered both. ha. what a big ole breakfast yum! I was full and didn't finish the pancake or the fried potatoes that came with the eggs.
I got up to the EXPO center by 9 and was about 9th in line and every minute about ten more people got behind us. all of us in line began to chat about what plants we were looking for and what we were growing, and then when they found out I was from OKC, we discussed weather this year and what would grow etc.
ten oclock!! doors open and we were in,  I can't say it was any help getting in line other than having a clear path towards the tables for a quick scan of plants, but it filled up FAST and we were all walking up and down aisles dodging everyone etc... they have a holding area so as you fill up a tray with plants, you drop it off and then fill up another. ha I got 3 trays filled which condensed to 2 really when I was finished by 12 noon.  scanning and making sure I'd seen everything, man it was so worth it. got some nice plants! a lot of things you just don't see online for example sangisorba 'Squirrrrel' or ligularia 'Garden Confetttti' . I was thrilled to get my 4 starter plants of Michhhauxia Tchihhhatechewii, a biennial that won't bloom til next year, its second.
took all my plants back to the airbnb and to the back porch, relaxed and caught up online some. My host had messaged to check in with me and say that he was out at a river w friends the night before and coming home that afternoon... I changed into something nicer to run around town in and to wear out later and googled some lunch places, i was looking for pizza.  I left and started driving west towards some main road and drove by this beautiful park! whoah, it was a square section of town all super tall trees, dense and so dark within, there was a park inside and trails. man i loved it! I got so hungry i ended up just stopping at an Arby's. all the kids there were super friendly and talkative. I splurged on a chicken bacon cheese sandwich and curly fries with mayonaise and ketchup and a coke! ha things i never eat or drink. fun :)
made my way over to another nursery, Marbott's, that I wanted to check out north of town, and I'm glad I did because I found a variegated bears breeches plant that I'd never seen before.stunning stuff, trust me. ;)
eventually I made my way back down south MLK with the goal of finding the broadway bridge, took me a while of circling around and this street and that and then, the bridge! I was crossing the bridge. what a beautiful experience every time going across and back that river into downtown. I had 3 goals, the Powells book store, the pioneer square, and Canoe home store.  I ended up at Powell's books first and had a great time checking everything there and the books and gifts, found the graphic novels sections and found  a lot of Glen Baxter books.  He is a surrealist comic that cracks me up with his bizarre random sense of humor. I got a book I hadn't seen before and another to leave at the airbnb for kicks.  also a very cool t shirt and some postcards to mail to friends. next I walked around the area a little bit, went into the Patagonia store jsut because it seems that's what everyone wears in Austin. ha ha. (I'll stick with Norse Projects or Topo Designs for outdoor gear though :P). walked around a while more, then drove over towards Canoe which unfortunately closed at 6 right before i got there. ha.  I walked around that area a bit too just because so much to see and people watching and the weather was awesome. I was sort of waiting to hear from my friend W about if we were having dinner or just drinks and she hadn't contacted me.  (she'd been working on a project all day for grad school).
I drove back down near the pioneer square but traffic was so crazy and no parking anywhere, and eventually I drove by the square and it seemed blocked off for construction anyway so I just kept driving West on burnside as far as it would take me. W messaged she was on way home to change and would contact me before leaving to the place for drinks.  I knew W lived up the hill but didnt' remember where.  I ended up way above the city in some neighborhood, beautiful houses, and stopped to take some photo of downtown below. continued back down the other side of the hill and end up going back towards burnside. I was getting hungry and thought the Zupan store looked like a good stop for food.  went in and shopped around, then bought some buffet food and sat down to relax and check my phone.  Zupan is sort of like a fancy whole foods?
I hadn't heard yet from W so started going towards 23rd st. she mentioned it was on 23rd and Lomac which there was no Lomac on the map so I just drove around.  eventually she gave me the actual st Raleigh, I drove over and met her. bingo! went to a bar near there and had a beer and we caught up on everything with her kid, who she's dating, church views, my single life, my happiness, how I could pray for her, encouraged her with school and parenting. (she's taking counseling classes which is teaching her all about herself growing up, amazing). and she encouraged me to try dating/meeting someone etc etc. :)
I left by 10 I think and I was feeling BEAT from being up early and from the time zone change etc. got home and my host R was home. I heard him down in the kitchen and as I needed to put some apples from Zupan in the fridge, went down to meet. damn! nice looking guy. his eyes so nice with a scruffy beard.  He pretty much looks like the kind of guy that is in super shape and might have a man bun, but he's cool enough not to have that. short hair, just right.  basically a guy in flimsy shorts and a t shirt - we introduced and made small talk about my day. I babbled on I'm sure like I do when it's that late. I mentioned how impressed I was by his schedule on the fridge of his week filled with work and training swimming endurance, running etc.  turns out he was training for another triathalon, it was paying off.  kept staring at him and chatting him up ha. but my energy level was gone and I was ready to crash. he mentioned a few times about his "former partner" which I figured could mean a guy or girl, but after he'd said it the second time I figured it out, and then eventually in our conversation he said something like " it's either cuz I'm gay or because....." something and that's when I was like, yes. dude can't be single for long though, his pecs, legs, ass. I mean his calves? whole package. basically he was a college soccer guy that kept up with training and has a really fit body. I couldnt' figure out what was up after meeting the gay couple on the plane, what was up with all these nice butch sporty gay guys in Portland and how do I get one? ha !! turns out he is a PE teacher at an elem school and loves everything outdoors, hiking camping rafting training etc.
I'd peaked into the garage Saturday wondering if anyone really lived there since the house was so minimalist clean. heck yeah the dude had a couple bikes hanging, snow board, outdoor gear, backpacks, a kayack, an iron, ski boots, and several pairs of shoes (size 11.5 I just happened to notice) on rack (he takes them off in the house, I tried my best to do the same but when I went in and out was a difficulty)
He mentioned he liked travelling and so I asked him where and he said Italy, Spain? maybe, and Guatamala, so I mentioned I'd been to G also, we talked about his language classes there and how he'd play soccer with the guys there etc. tons of fun, I tried some of my Spanish, but I was trying to hold back not talking too much and eventually said good night so I could CRASH!!!
