summer continues....

hello from Manhattan, Kansas.  I'm here for a club convention taking garden tours tomorrow morning and the next.  I stayed the night at my brother's SE of Wichita, Yesterday was pretty busy. I got up in time to get to the south side of OKC to move furniture at 630 with my friend A, but it start to rain so we cancelled it and I drove back home to nw OKC...when I got home I remember I wanted to get an oil change before driving to Kansas, and took my truck to the local place at 8 and walked home.  they called to say my wheels were unaligned and it had worn down my front two tires pretty badly, so they were going to put them on the back and put the back tires in front.I went and got it, and got an estimate for 2 new tires and realignment about $528... went home and got ready for work, went to the school and talked to my boss for a while about my schedule this fall. then taught class from 1045 to 115, then I had about a half hour to go over 86 candidates applying for a position that i'm on the hiring committee. went to the meeting at 2 and we got out by 330, I went back to the garage on the way home and asked for the 2 new tires and realignment. went home and an hour later walked back up there.  I mentioned could I have a discount on account of having to pay for the towing the last time they left the pin loose under my truck and I had to take it back up there for them to fix it (happened last fall). they took off half the alignment fee(45 instead or 90) and for whatever reason I only paid $412. not bad!
I got out of town by 6 or 630.. I like taking log drives, really get to think through things in my mind.  I'm getting a little more comfortable in my own skin I like to think. I was reflecting on the death of my uncle a few weeks ago and the trip I took down to Texas with all my siblings the Wed before July 4th. seeing my dad and all his siblngs but instead of the usual 5 they were just 4. so sad. and my uncles widow is taking it the best she can. My uncle had been fighting lymphoma cancer for a few years and it was getting better, then not, and what actually killed him was a seizure while in the hospital and he had a stroke. it was very sudden for all of us. anyway she keeps posting on Facebook about missing him but how she's not angry at God and continues to trust in her Faith in God.  I'm impressed by that. I'm looking forward to only 2 more weeks of summer class.  next Tuesday I'll get essay 3, and then the next Tuesday essay 4, and then the Thursday after that, July 23rd is last day of class!! woo hoo, i already have plans to leave town and get up to AR that night!! (Actually I'm going to a Wes Anderson event at the Philbrook Museum in Tulsa that night then onward to AR.)
well I got into town today about 11:30 and drove to different locations and talked about landscatping and gardening with different people in the area. now I'm in my hotel room waiting for a college buddy who teaches at KSU to get back to me. there is a plant auction at 7pm tonight etc... on with the weekend! hotel room is nice and there is a pool. but what I like is the comfy beds, clean rooms, and remote to the tv! :) ha

we are golden.........

matchy matchy....

I thought of getting these to wear to a Wes Anderson party, the sort of overstylized resort type look? but not sure if it really says Wes Anderson or not. I may just wear a red beanie cap instead..... :P
Ed. I've decided to perhaps wear just two things together, for example the shorts and socks , or the shirt and socks. all 3 or 4 things might be overkill......still a part of me wants to wear all 4 somewhere, now that I think about it perhaps sitting in a room with the same wallpaper on the wall and then I'd be like camoflauge, nah maybe not.... I absolutely did order those nice matching green converse though!!! ah yeah!! converse always and forever.... woot woot.

jeans Tuesday...

can't see..........

for your next road trip......

got style?..........

(From the University of Texas online writing style guide page titled "Sensitivities")

Sexual Orientation

gay/lesbian: “Gay” is acceptable and preferable as a synonym for homosexuals, primarily males. “Lesbian” is preferred for women. When possible, use “gay and lesbian.” It’s best to use “gay” as an adjective, not a noun, for example, “gay man,” “gay people.” Where space is an issue, “gay” is acceptable to include both gays and lesbians.
gay lifestyle: Avoid this term. There is no one gay lifestyle, just as there’s no one heterosexual lifestyle.
gay relationships: Gay, lesbian and bisexual people use various terms to describe their commitments. If possible, ask the individual what term he or she prefers. Otherwise, “partner” is generally acceptable.
homosexual: This is the medical/clinical term for lesbians and gays. (adj.) Of or relating to sexual and affectional attraction to a member of the same sex. (n.) A person who is attracted to members of the same sex. “Gay” or “lesbian” is the preferred term in all contexts, except clinical.
LGBTQA: Acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and ally communities.

While hanging out with friends in my bud's pool Saturday, a song about Alejandro came on and I asked who it was singing.  A friend said "Lady Gaga! I'm going to have to revoke your gay card." or something like that.  anyway, it's a good example, and I know he was just playing around, but inside I just rolled my eyes.  I was thinking once again I'm just not gay enough for this crowd apparently! ha
but I let it roll off my back so to speak, although after that, any gay dance song that came on i was asked "who is this?"  thank goodness I recognized Britney Spears voice, couldnt' care less for the music, and I missed a Kylie Minoque song, big F deal.   It's all Madonna and Gaga at the pool and I've gotten used to it, it's like the gay law apparently to have that music playing any time 3 or more gays (oops not to be used as a noun I meant gay guys) are at the same function. ha  although I will say later it changed to a pandora channel of 80's music and that was way more awesome.
This morning i was thinking, how do I revoke someone's heterosexual card? wait, that'd be accusing them of being gay, what a joke, but I don't guess I felt being accused of being straight. whatever.
anyway, so I really like the above writing style guide suggestion of not using the term gay lifestyle as everyone just has a lifestyle.
Although I suppose if we were to consider a lifestyle stereotype, it'd be stereotyping for gay or straight.  I might say for guys who throw themselves into the gay lifestyle as those who are doing circuit parties, clubbing all the time, and hooking up online constantly, sort of an as much sex as possible way of living? which of course is so innaccurate.  and the straight lifestyle.....hmm maybe wife and kids, playing x box, beer, watching sports constantly and washing the car?  I mean it's lame right? gay guys can be all about family and sports and beer video games and there are plenty of straight guys all about clubbing and having as much sex as possible...people are people and forgive me if I gave up keeping up with gay icon dance club divas years ago.  Gaga was nothing more than Madonna 2 point anyway for me as talented, (yes yes, as very talented as) she is.... :)
overall, as I get more comfortable with new friends, it will take effort to be more accepting of the things someone loves and wants to experience as "gay" as they may be and being comfortable letting myself be a part of it. And I hope also to show we can appreciate and discuss all sorts of things gay or not and enjoy music as music whether it's gay club music or not, and perhaps help friends to relax and be gay without having to prove anything by following every cultural gay norm. or any inuendo comment with that's what he said etc...  time time time
Now about that thing above: queer, questioning, and ally communities? hmmmmm
