relaxing weekend............

friday summer post....

I woke up this morning while dreaming of being at my former job in latin America teaching at a school in the mountains up above the city, tropical arid climate pine trees and clouds brushing the ground. what memories! The dreams a blur now, but at the time i was walking from one side of campus to the other and chatting with some new teachers about the campus.. what a dream and such a beautiful place.
I slept in for a change past 6:30 am. woo hoo. so I cancelled the morning swim and slipped on my old pair of khakis and a summer long sleeve hoodie tshirt to keep of mosquitoes and walked around the yard to check out all the plants and stuff while it was cool out. nice cloudy relaxed morning.  I'm great at doing nothing when I have nothing that has to be done. ugh.. this morning though my goal was to get some stuff up into the attic while the roof was still cool and it was cloudy out.  this was a quite a project, I put it off until about 10 am and instead piddled in the kitchen and my room and outside and online. eventually I got into the guest room full of boxes and STUFF and brought the attic door down and began checking stuff under stuff and found the Christmas boxes, got up into the attic and found I needed to shuffle stuff around I'd been throwing up there past months.... well I got a lot cleared out, the Christmas stuff anyway, but there are all my winter jackets and coats piled up on the bed and more boxes I'll need to make a decision what am I keeping and why am I keeping it!?!?!?!   I took some things to work to my office that were school related, not including the framed illustration of a water bottle by Groovisions I found in a closet.  I'll spend more time on that room tonight or tomorrow or whenever.
What inspired me was that T had to stay in that room Sun-Tues nights and my buddy H messaged he'd be visiting from Austin this weekend, but he was unclear whether that meant staying with me or his dad or whether I'd see him at all.  But either way, I said to myself, let the chance he IS coming spur you to clean it up, and then if he doesn't come by, it's still done!
I made a lunch at left for my office at the school by 11;30.  I got some emailing done and adjusted the new course syllabus to my liking and turned an order of copies in for class starting next week. I left for the gym by 3 to swim laps.  Initially I'd planned to get back to working out today, but being a Friday and all, I said, nah.. I'll just swim laps and go home before 4pm and rush hour traffic. successfully done as I wasn't home by 4:09.  I ate a lot of milkshakes and malts and cookies while on the road trip to Denver and back!!! so I have to start those morning lap swims and no more cookies around here. I bake less in the summer anyway cuz the heat and the AC and save money etc... plus when I'm hotter I'm less hungry usually go figure.  I do feel sexier without the beard but not like I'm looking around or anything, but I feel I have a somewhat younger appeal at the gym or I'm imagining it which is also okay. :P
tonight I'm going to dinner with A , my vet friend, and we'll catch up about her job and who knows what else, and I'll tell her bout my trip etc..  I'm getting over to S's place tomorrow at some point to get the last bundle of bricks behind his house. I've been moving them little by litte and have 5 bundles stacked up by my carport so far, also he's giving some cinder blocks, all which was left by previous owner and he has no use for. I'm putting in two brick garden paths this summer (if it ever stops raining and dries out a bit). the cinder blocks I plan to use for steps coming up the sloped hill on the side of my house down to the street (for the old people on the garden tour coming by in 2017).
nonews yet on the August intercession course but I hope it comes through and I get the extra work. hope all have a great weekend. I'll include some photos of the yard, someone asked about the previous cover photo, they are poppies, papaver somniforum (same as opium kind) and are annuals.cheers.

life's a beach.............

mid week summer start up.......

I went up to work yesterday morning to help another professor move out of her office and all her stuff back to her home. She retired. She was an interim Dean a few summers ago and has taught for a while at my college. She was my go to person down the hall from my office and I'm going to miss having access to her wisdom and experience. but she'll still be around teaching a few classes.  I brought her a rose bush from CO as a gift. ha.  I came home after that and went to lunch with T for pizza here in town since I missed last Saturday getting my usual pizza lunch there.
Didn't do much the rest of the day, just play in the yard and relax. My back and shoulders were killing me from lifting all these heavy stones out of my truck and then the future from my retired friend's office. I need to get back to the gym and my routine, and stop eating milkshakes. I've had 3 or 4 during the last week, but vacation is over today, T goes back home this afternoon. I'm leaving for work around 10 so I can have a few hours to get things done before a committee meeting (our last) from 1 to 4pm today. then I'll be back at the gym and hopefully getting my summer fitness ON! That means swimming laps tomorrow morning and from here on out as well.
The trip to Denver was awesome and we always have stuff to talk about, but the extra couple days in okc after we got back were not planned and so took me off guard.  I think I began to get annoyed at T sort of taking my hand and holding hands in Denver. I don't like it because I must keep her at a complete distance. I'm constantly talking to her about finding another husband and dating but she goes on and on about how she doesn't think she will get married again, and then on the other hand she'll have a comment about not being able to do something around the house or how after her period she's more in the mood to makeout.. ...blah blah.  Our friendship is a great one for having a single friend to relate to, and I've known her since college so we go way back and know all the same people, but I do like some time in between visits and I may keep more time in between visits from now on.  maybe chat less on social network at night with her.  Since she's in between jobs an just finished grad school, I made an effort to pay for most of the trip, even the two times she gave me her credit card to fill up at gas stations on the way up and back, I secretly used my own. I also paid for all our meals together. I meant it as a graduation gift, taking her up there to visit the former roomie.  But I get frustrated at how she does spend her money, not sure where it comes from. ha
anyway, onward with summer!!  I begin the one summer class next Tuesday and am looking forward to what students I'll have.  I also told my boss yesterday that I'd be interested in teaching an August intercession class, this means that during the 3 weeks or less between summer classes and fall semester, they offer quick sessions of classes where students go for 5 hours a day and you get all of the 16 weeks of classes done in that amount of time. whew! I can't even imagine, but I've never done it and want to experience. plus it's and extra $2000 , same pay for the same class, but less time!  I decided if I'm going to get serious about getting in some funds to pay off the truck and then work on early mortgage pay off, I need to start taking advantage of intercession classes, for example next Jan, and also May intercession next year. we'll see.
Well I'm going to get out of bed and enjoy a sort of lazy morning and last morning with T here, before getting off to work and then the gym and then home to mow the lawn tonight. cheers all.

is it summer yet?

wknd rvw...

yawn... man I was so tired when we finally got home Sunday night. it was a long long long drive back from Denver east through Kansas and then south going through Wichita.  I had a really good time in Denver. we went hiking all over the mountain trails on Saturday morning with our friends and their 3 kids... it was rainy weather Saturday afternoon so we ended up hanging out at the house and relaxing and playing with the kids, doing some out door projects, talking, I ran over to Englewood to find the house of a former student from latin america but no luck.  we made some dinner later and then the 4 of us went out to Red Rocks outdoor amphitheater to hear a band play, but it got rained out so we drove around a bit and ended up back home for food and wine.
Left Sunday morning by 10 o clock and then back home in OKC by 9. we could have made better time but we took our time and even stopped in Kansas and a "little Sweden" town along the way.
Monday slept in, then T and I went downtown to the Paseo Arts Festival. I was looking for some wire framed structures for the yard, but we both ended up just getting some pottery gift type stuff..
on the way home we had lunch at this new place in the Plaza district, just south of where I used to live during college on Carey Place.  Anyway it's called  "Chiltepes Latin Cuisine" and is basically Guatemalan food, but VERY GOOD!!! I haven't' had good PUPUSAS in SO LONG!! and this place had 'em. YUM YUM YUM, they also served a little tea cup of vegetable soup when you sit down.
also cheese AND black bean dip with the chips. just great!
we went by Scott and B's place and said hello to everybody, then to WHole Foods and then home to relax. watched some tv last night before turning in... She decided to stay an extra day even though I was ready to get back to my routine, ha, but we've had a good day. ciao!

get a grip...........
