SHRTLS SATRDY

saturday............

Saturday! good weekend to you, I finished up at work yesterday by 2 and came home and and relaxed killing time online a bit and sitting back. I went up to the gym to swim laps and then back home to change for dinner. I met J and S at Belle Isle Brewery and after we ate went to the Oscar nominated live action short films showing downtown at the art museum with S. They were some pretty good choices. One British film about a Psychologist who visits a guy in prison who claims to be God and all the other prisoners begin worshiping, It was original and really made ya think, clever. A Danish film about a kid slowly dying in a hospital which was a bit too long and slow, although yes well done, and I like the dark haired black full bearded guy in that film. (Isn't everyone in a Danish film always good looking?!) An French short film about an abused wife attempting to leave her husband is the one that gets my vote, so well screened and directed, had my heart thumping here and there in real time to the what was going on in the film. Another short film was Spanish but took place in Africa, about warlords with child soldiers and rescue workers who get caught up and taken in etc... I didn't' watch all of this film because of the violence I was looking away at the ceiling or counting tiles on the wall, and I was thinking how I don't like how they make these violent AFrican films, either the warlords or the pirating of ships.  However I decided overall that we are country that needs reminding and we need these situations thrown in our face, so that we don't just ignore, but that we are aware of whats going on elsewhere in the world.  The last film was one I'd seen before at the international short film festival. about a family running late to a wedding and how everything goes wrong. It was a funny comedy. I still vote the Oscar to the French film.
this morning I got up pretty early and made some scones to surprise my sisters with.  They were ooh-ing and awe-ing on facebook about the one I made last week for school.  So I thought i'd make some this weekend and drive over to their places in the morning. So I cooked 'em up, this time orange and chocolate chip, and another maple/walnut.  The maple/walnut ones were more scone like, a bit dryer than the yummy orange choco chip ones. put half of each on two plates and then wrapped each plate in blankets and towels to keep 'em warm, and drove over to each of my sisters's places.
Stayed at the second one's house for a couple house talking to my bro in law and nephew and a bit with my sis and her daughters.
On the way home I stopped off at Home Depot, always a great place to people watch. Today was a nice tall young guy in a winter hat and some athletic workout pants that were just tight enough in front in the right way. I bought 5 bags of mulch to spread outside. I've been trying to spend money on the yard little by little on the weekends so its not a huge sum come spring.
went and swam laps today before lunch and then my usual pizza lunch. now I'm about to get bundled up and get outside for some yardwork and then maybe come in and warm up a while with some papers to grade.
I'm going with S again tonight to see the Oscar nominated ANIMATED short films downtown. looking forward to it. Everybody stay inside and keep warm , enjoy the weekend!

buddy tuesday...

winter wonderland Tuesday

good morning, got a half snow day today! I was up early, shaved and shirt and tied, looked outside the front door at everythign blanketed in the white snow, and then sat down and noticed the tv had closings running including my college with classes cancelled until 11 am. and that was at 630am.... ha
well I fixed a nice long breakfast, my usual 3 scrambled eggs, bowl of instant oatmeal with golden crisp cereal on top and then 2 bowls of Honey nut Cheerios mixed with Honey Bunches of Oats cereal. Mmmm.  and then put some music on and did some laundry, changed the sheets on my bed and put the others in the wash, replaced my new duvet cover and then put all my shoes in boxes and back into the closet, changed out a rug, did some dishes, emailed some people, looked around online for plants and perennials for this spring. hmm guess that's it so far, ha I plan to call the Monocle Magazine store in NYC next to renew my subscription. I forget if I blogged about how awesome Monocle magazine is. I've subscribed from the start and last November, I tried to renew by phone as usual and my card wouldn't go through at the NYC store.....so weird, I called my bank and they said VISA was blocking it since it was going through to a bank in the UK, which for whatever reason the bank told me this a few times and a few times they had no idea why my card wouldn't work in NYC. LAME!!! so I've had my college bank account at ARVEST since college for whatever reason, and called that bank for a new debit card, since I hadn't received one in years since I never use that account. well they sent me one, and my goal today is to use that card and try again to renew subscribe.
okay well, now here is the cool part, I talked to the store in NYC a few times, and then I emailed Monocle back and forth a few times, i was nothing but pleasant and kind gushing about how much I loved the magazine, how I love travelling (back when i used to travel) with my two Monocle version Porter brand Boston bag and Shoulder bag, etc etc... and the last email told them I wasn't satisfied that I couldnt' subscribe in the states at the NYC store and the only other option was to give London my information and get charged an overseas subscription rate etc etc... anyway the last email pretty much said they'd renew it and I could pay when possible. :) I was shocked, and please not to miss a copy. So anyway, I got the new card at some point before Christmas, then got busy with the holidays, and today have the extra time to follow through and pay for the renewal! i don't want to take advantage of their kindness. and have put it off too long already.
I missed my 8am and 930 classes this morning, but I'll be up there by 11 because I agreed to sub for a friend's class today. I would have been going up there anyway to do office hours and plan stuff for tomorrow etc etc. Swam and worked chest at the gym yesterday! today is swim and run treadmill only. I've decided my new goal is to do chest MON, rest TUES, Back Wed, Legs THurs, and arms Fri, then rest on weekends we'll see if that works or not. one thing I'm excited about this semester is ending my office hours by 3:15pm int he afternoon, that gets my home in time to warm up swimming laps and then get in a work out. spring is around the corner, but for today, enjoy the SNOW! :)

busy body...

wow haven't written in a while. well, last week was awesome and I got all my classes figured out and seem to have a great group of students overall a good mix and this time a bit more vocal and animate. Friday night I got out of the office by 1:30 and went to Uli's mechanic shop because he wanted to give me part of the payment for my old Ranger. $200. I then drove home and then to the gym to swim laps and work out a very little bit. legs. from there straight to my buddy S's place and the to Iguana Cafe again for mini Taco's! next we went to the mall. I swore I wouldn't buy anything, but sure enough we found some stuff at pottery barn on sale, and I ended up with a new duvet cover. ha I've had the same one since I've lived here about ten years, so this is a nice change. we tried on lots of things and I almost got some stuff but talked myself out of it.
Saturday morning me time and relax time and by 1130 or so I was getting ready for the day and place picked up. I went swimming laps at 12:30 and then to pizza for lunch. next grocery store to stock up on cereal and stuff, then to Ace Hardware to get some wooden outdoor screws for fence repair, next to Home Depot for  some bags of pine bark mulch, then to the outlet mall on I-40 and Council Rd because I needed a lemon zester and cheese grater, and there is a La Gourmet store there.came back home and worked on the beds outside raking up the big leaves blown by the wind, and then mulching from a bag of crushed leaves and then covered with the mulch. and then got the drill and cord out to start repairing the gate on my fence that's been sitting aside since last spring ice storm damaged the fence in that part. did that until dark and then came in for dinner and watched some tv and some youtube. mainly lots of astronaut videos. just search on youtube for eating nuts space station and there are a slew of videos from the space station. my favorites were the lady talking about how they get up in the morning and go to the bathroom. and the guy who wrings out a washcloth. awesome.
today I went to church, Sunday school. came home and had lunch and relaxed surfing the net searching for perennial plants.. ran across that mechanic buddy of mine on facebook, KS. he mentioned coming over after his bike ride this afternoon. So I cleaned up all my laundry everywhere, then went outside and did more yard work for quite a while, about 5 I came back inside to check online if he'd messaged. he never made it over, oh well. he has a bf now but I still want to see him and just catch up.
I cooked up some chicken tonight and really liked what I did with it, dipped it in milk, and then the flour I mixed with salt and basil and chipotle pepper powder. anyway I cooked 'em up and it was nice.  watched the grammys, some people I didn't know or really didnt' even like ,all the damn rap music. there is nothing new with rap music, it's all the same ole same ole!! ha.  anyway, I also made some orange/choco chip scones tonight to take to work tomorrow. that's why I bought the zester for the orange, and the grater for the butter. hope all had a great weekend, I'm beat. whoosh. but ready to get back to work this week second week of classes, it's going to get real! ha :)

pet me....
