week goes on.........

another week blazes by, won't be too long before the beard comes back! i've already got it all planned out. when we have fall break mid october, I'll stop shaving a few days before and then get back a week later and have the beard started. ha good ole fall/winter seasons come again. just imagine the layers and combinations of things to wear to the new job.
anyway, I'm getting through the week well enough. the students remain responsive in class. I guess I actually sort of miss the high school age kid a little bit, I get a kick out of talking the 5 or 6 in my afternoon class. but what's fun is they are SO high school yet all responsive and motivated to do well. obviously since they are con currently enrolled.  Another thing I love about my classes is the mix of rural kids and such.  I'll be finishing up grading about 42 essays this weekend and then after a couple of weeks the next round will come in. new job is completely worth it.
I had some trouble trying to renew my subscription to MONOCLE magazine today.I tried last night and then again today while at work...wasn't working so I called my band,  Something about the transaction coming from the UK and that Visa blocks them...? according to my bank. So when I got home from work I tried again by calling the Monocle store in NYC.. which is what I've done the last 2 times I renewed my subscription.  Weird thing is my credit card didn't work again, and then neither would my debit card...
I called my bank here in OKC, they assured me both cards were fine and that the only showing was the UK online transactions coming in.. I dunno...
I called the girl in NYC back and explained, anyway I'm waiting to see if they respond from London to my emal tomorrow. I offered to mail in a check or ?"  week going well and ready f9r the weekend!

bromance time...

could be...

time flies...

having fun here today, went by pretty fast, all three classes. bam bam, meeting, lunch, bam...
returned all the papers to the three classes I teach on tues and thurs.  I also showed some photos to the classes of me teaching in at the missionary school for 3 years in Central america and then later when I was overseas in kaabbul teaching English, just to share my background a bit after reading all their experience essays.  real productive classes today, they all finished with group work comparing errors from their papers and coming up with grammar rules to follow the next time etc etc.. still reading? well anyway,
came home from work in time to go across the street behind my house ( my house is on a corner) this pastor of a church who lives down the street behing my house sort of, well anyway, he was outside and I went over to say hi (he used to be a college professor also) and I told him my job was going fine and I loved it etc, and then I told him about the neighbors on the other side of me next door. Last weekend, I came home Saturday afternoon to see they had sprayed a stain/sealer whatever on their wooden fence ( I may have carried on about them putting a new fence in last summer, no sure). Well anyway so my garden shed in the back near that fence was speckled and splattered on the fence side with the orangey brown stain. So was a bed of plants, but that will all still live no big deal, but the shed sort of got on my nerves.
Yesterday I walked over there as soon as I got home from work in my shirt and tie like a nerd and knocked on their door to speak to someone about it. I smiled and I said sorry to bother you, hey look I'm just wondering if the fence people are coming back to clean up, for example, the stain all over my shed, or shall I make time this weekend to clean it off myself.  She was nice (there are 3 or 4 girls sharing the place all graduated from the college nearby) and said you know, she wasn't aware etc etc.. I asked her if it was her cousins that came back to stain it ( they had put the fence in this summer 3 red head brothers, I may have blogged about it). she said yeah and she'll ask them.  anyway, I smiled and apologized for the bother and everything and said it's not like it's a big deal etc... However yes it is a big deal to me! ha ha. it's the principle and I plan to see it through just to pester 'em and otherwise I'll get out the and clean it up myself, I mean all I really care about is the back side of it that you can see from the street looking at it from between our houses. if that makes sense...sigh
Otherwise I got my other 2 classes' papers yesterday and I was going to try hard to get them all graded by Friday, but nah, I'm going to pass them back in a week on next Monday and that way I'll have all weekend to grade 'em. instead of killing myself coming home from work every night. blah I'd rather work out and relax.
Today i did that after talking to the man across the street, I changed up and got to the gym. finally, ran some and did chest day. the kid was there and we caught up and then this 6'2 tall Mexican guy that I chat with sometimes was also there, so the three of us were conversating back and forth.  the guy was bench pressing 225 lb and he's naturally strong and has big ole shoulders etc. not all rounded up muscly but natural looking. really nice guy, asked me if I worked last summer at the water park and I said nah it'd been a while. and we talked about him working out at the gym downtown and seeing this other Mexican guy shooting up and lifting crazy weights. how he lived in okc in a poor part of town with his 3 kids and how he worked a lot of jobs and all that. And I talked to  him about my new job and how I didn't miss the old one. ha
I am supposed to be taking my ex gf to Vampire Weekend concert in Tulsa coming up here during our homecoming weekend, but I have no idea where the tickets are! ugh. I think maybe somewhere in my pickup? I have to start looking for 'em otherwise it's money down the drain! ARGH. am looking forward the show though even though I'd rather be at Austin City Limits that weekend seeing Typhoon and the Cure! :P

keep it clean, guys...

super Sunday...

I finally got to the third class of essays to grade and finally an A paper. The sad thing it is from a high school senior taking concurrent classes.  It was nice to grade an A paper and finally feel like I wasn't just making up comma rules that nobody knows or uses anymore. ha  I've been at it all weekend , staying home yesterday and today, no gym time or pool time :(, but sacrifices must be made for my dream job, alas...
It turns out the two best buds in my class that I wrote about before have both had awful ACL injuries that were "life changing" events.  It really is a life changing event to a junior in high school who can never play their senior year etc. I'll be working on just the right encouraging words to say about how many more things lie ahead of them besides being the football star in high school. ha ha.. at least they are motivated and going to college. other essays were a girl who tore her ACL and now won't be playing softball in college and has no idea what her future will be... lots of car wreck stories (I must remember to use another example next semester than car wrecks, something more positive, like think of a great fun super cool memory to write about.. haha...), graduation stories, some really good tornado stories of kids who had houses damaged in the May 20th tornado which I hope help them process the situation, and many others.  There was a really interesting one about 4 guys who moved to Aspen for the summer for valet jobs all summer. and another about a drunk highschool party and fight where an angry kid got in his car and ran into the crowd and ended breaking the legs of an innocent bystander who later lost one of his legs. wow!
Anyway, many don't get A's because I feel that college level you really need to get it right to get an A. With all the errors they make without really proofreading or trying, then if you give them anything above 90 they feel that's great keep doing the same thing. So it really has to be pretty darn good for an A.  I have enough experience to know how to rate the papers, I don't want it to seem arbitrary.
had an email from a former hung bud here in OKC this weekend which led to nothing , just some flirty messages back and forth. He knows where I stand these days as not hooking up quickies and sorry you'll have to get me to lunch or dinner first or DO SOMETHING real, if that makes sense.
I got paid Friday and am working on  a budget to get some money saved up to travel next summer. MAYBE NYC this December but I'm thinking maybe, sniff sniif, I'll have to not go this year. If plane tickets come down, MAYBE MAYBE, otherwise nope. it's just $600 I'd rather put towards Christmas gifts in general and whatever else.  I do plan to get to NYC either way in May to see "Bullets over Broadway" with Zach Braff if I can get a ticket with my next paycheck.
I had a former roomate from when I taught in Central AMerica who moved his family to Dominican Republic and hope to visit him next summer absolutely!  Otherwise that's all planned so far. I truly want to get back to Paris and/or London within the next 2 years, so I'll just keep planning. I'm also hoping to get a bud to save and go with me. woo hoo, someone who likes to sight see mainly and a little in to shopping of course.
OKAY no more dreaming and blogging, must get back to the other stack of essays.I deactivated my account Friday on Social network until next weekend at least. I have another 2 classes of essays turned in tomorrow. It's a nice break, very interesting feeling when you are single person. It hints on the feeling like on Star Trek where they are disconnected from "the borg".. ha ha  And of course I'm thinking of the most amazing things to say and/or links to post now that I'm not on there. ..
I'm ready for fall and wearing browns and greys and greens and oranges etc... :) also have already planned the return of my beard...fall break mid October until school is out for break in Decemeber. bring on Fall!

speedo Sunday...
