weekend, no time off from gym! :P

wknd wonder........

had a great start to the new job! I have not been home the last two Saturdays so I am really enjoying this weekend. did NOTHING much this morning and then am about to get outside and play in the yard and then over to see my mom before lunch. she had her knee worked on last week. anyway, it was really rough getting back to the gym Wednesday. whew! I think I got in one swim and workout in the last two weeks between trips, so I was feeling like putty and trying to get in the swing of things back to swimming laps twice a day. I have a trip to Austin coming up in two weeks so I'm going to try to keep it up cada dia! each day until then.
We had new faculty training all week about how we were chosen to do the job, and the whole philosophy of the college, and strategies in retaining students, and how we have challenges in getting them ready for the world or  other universities etc etc.. it went really well. long long long days! ha as a teacher last year we went in at 730 and school was over by 230, but last week it was 8:30-5pm with us in meetings or working lunches all day. but we were a group of 13 new hires and were able to/ and supposed to bond with the group which we'll be meeting with every month this year for more updates and checkups etc. lots of great people.
there was this one lady who is a "doctor" and she had so many questions and comments which I'm pretty patient with, but it started getting on my nerves how she'd start talking and then within a few seconds take off her glasses with both hands and then shake her hair back a bit as she continued talking as if on a really serious level. anyway, that got on my nerves, but I'm not very good in meetings usually unless they are moving and keeping me interested, I get distracted easily I guess you could say... as long as I have something to doodle on or take notes on, I'm okay.  my doodles are usually lines and circles that get colored in or crisscrossed or made into some sort of pattern etc..
I have an office! it's pretty nice enough size wise... I plan to bring up a rug to hang on the wall and a few Eames office chairs I have here at home, and then I'll start looking for a small table. I also plan to do something interesting with the wall of shelves. more on that later.  right now I'm just anxious to get my syllabus done for both classes and then turned in to the print shop etc etc... Also there are some pretty awesome online features I can use to upload everything so it's accessible to students. for example for the students who don't have books, I plan to put copies of the first few pages online so they can do the homework without excuse of no book...
we had a big rain Thursday night and last weekend so the yard is aweomse and green.  it was a jungle to mow last Wednesday after work I will say, but today I plan to clean up stuff and get things managed. sorry to bore you with all those details. but I love getting outdoors.I plan to get out to a movie downtown tonight, it's a modern version of a Shakespeare play, Much Ado About Nothing, I think, I remember reading about it how it was filmed in one weekend or something like that...
hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Wednesday bromance buddy time....

back to life, back to reality

Good morning from OKC!  I got in last night about 9. which is strange because we left St. Charles at 730am..   T was giving directions and I was driving since it was so early....and I was not told the right highway after we took 364 to 270 and then exit 55 south......  what happened is we ended up almost to Memphis before she told me we should be on 44 to springfield... OOPS.....SUUUUUUUUCCCKED.
ha ha.  I had ALL these plans of getting home by 430 and going to work out, swim, come home and mow!!
but nope, we had to turn on hiway 60 and go west to Springfield which added another 3 or more hours to the trip. but hey, we got to see parts of MO we'd never planned to before. :)  drove through Dexter and Poplar Bluff and hit 44 again in Springfield going south back to AR...got in around 5 and then I stopped by a few friends place to make a sandwich at the first place, and then quick hello to my bf J and his family on the way out of town... so I arrived late and completely wiped out and unpacked the truck and watered some things in pots outside then to bed!
I had a message from my friend in town, A, about a moving job this morning this morning and THANKFULLY she said Thursday morning instead was okay.. whew...
I start my new job today!! 9am I'll be reporting for duty, new faculty training all week 9-5 according to schedule, and then next week we report all week for general back to school faculty meetings and then "work week".  I'll be rearranging my two syllabi for COMP I and COMP II, to divide the COMP I class to a 2 class a week course, and the COMP II into a 3 class a week course.
as usual I look forward to see who is in my classes, since it's during the day classes, I'll probably have less older adults since they all work during the day, and mainly college age kids, but you never know, it's usually a mix.
I can't WAIT to get home from work today and get the house picked up and things in place, and get a swim in and a work out. man I've been off a week and feel my body shrinking!! ha  i ws going to change my job status today on a social network to announce about the new job, but I'm torn between waiting to take a picture of me in front of my office door with my name on it with the caption, the professor is in! ha

beach break....

road trip back home,.....

I'm about to CRASH and BURN here in a very very comfortable queen bed in St. Charles MO..... we arrived about an hour ago and now I'm all showered up and ready for bed, already posted photos of our stop at National Park Warren Sand Dunes on a social network.. .
We left around 730 or so and drove drove drove all day. we stopped at the sand dunes and climbed all the way to the top and then back down, stopped over near Chicago at a Star Bucks in Bollingbrook. we had lunch there with a friend of my ex's from AR.  he is a former model now currently working for a non profit and at a different star bucks and he has a new boyfriend who is moving an hour away and he's confused about what career goals to pursue next and how to date a guy an hour away while living with his parents in Chicago. it was all pretty interesting at lunch. he's 26.
anyway, we got back on the road by 3pm and then drove drove drove again all the way to St. Louis.
tomorrow morning we plan to leave by 7 hopefully and another long day of driving to AR. about 6 hours and then I'll have 3 more back to OKC. whew! cant' wait to be back in bed tomorrow at home.
I will begin the new job Wednesday. can't wait!:) I am also going to be researching on how to see the movie "Blue Jasmine" by Woody Allen, I've been reading a lot about it and can not wait to see it! so hopefully it will get  wide release and come to OKC and if not I'll have to drive somewhere. maybe while in Austin at the end of the month. hope everyone had a good weekend and your summer is winding down nicely. mine ends tomorrow. ;)
