more speedo fun....

weekend update

Hello from minneapolis! had a great weekend here. arriving Thursday and doing all the convention meetings, and then afterward I took a hotel shuttle to the Mall of America to get some dinner and check it out.  pretty nice big place, but not NYC. ha  there was one store I wanted to check out called "moods of Norway" but it hadn't opened yet.  I WILL say most definitely of you go by the Paciugo gelato place, you HAVE to try the Green Tea Crunchy Chocolate Swirl!!! oh man!!
well I got back to the hotel in time to get an invite from a college friend, a girl I'd seen last time I was in Austin actually. anyway she texted me saying she was out with a bunch of blonds and to come meet her out for drinks! ha. so I headed over to the Swedish Institute to join 'em for a while at the Castle and Cocktail function going on there, just hung out checking out the crowd and chit chatting with people she knew. ha was fun and I got back to the hotel early enough to CRASH, had been a long day.
yesterday was filled up with a bunch of garden tours and then I skipped out on the banquet dinner. A former student from Central America who lives here with his wife came over and picked me up and took me out to dinner downtown and drove me all around both sides of the river and we walked around the sculpture gardens where they have the big spoon etc.. then he drove me back to the hotel all around some lake and then south on France street back to Bloomington Double Tree.
today was touring gardens all day, I'm about to go to a meeting, and then tonight a banquet blah blah... I am trying to hit up someone for a ride to the airport early because my flight leaves at 6am and the hotel shuttles don't even start til 6am! sucks!! so otherwise it'd be an extra $35 for a taxi from here. UGHHH....
hope everyone is enjoying summer , it's been nice a cool up north here this weekend a good break from the Oklahoma heat. :)

Big Saturday.....

weekend about to start up.

had my last class today, went well enough, every body had to tell the class what their "stand" was in the last argument paper and how they backed it up and what was the opposing point of view.  We got into some good discussions on some of 'em, like death penalty for juveniles, cell phone use in schools, gun ownership, recycling (which wasn't a great argument topic but whatever) and one guy's paper was about electronic dance music, or EMD, which he kept referring throughout the paper as EMD and drove me crazy. His argument was about how it was an art form.. blah blah. He's a great guy and I guess some kind of DJ, but I told him my opinion was that this wasn't anything new and it seemed to be rehashing of the synth of 80's and 90's techno etc.. ha. but anyway I actually burned a CD this morning of some electronic stuff on my itunes like discovery, delphic, Metronomy, and classic pet shop boys remixes, and one song by EBTG, and others.
while everyone was finishing the final in class essay assessment, I was grading and putting them into the computer as they finished so i could get all the grades in and turned in leave in time to get back to my side of the city and swim laps before lap swim was over at 2pm. many students said they enjoyed my class in their papers and a handful or more said they'd try and take my comp II class.
I swam, ate lunch, relaxed and got stuff out to pack for the trip. went to the gym and worked out my back and shoulders. my "bud" was up there working arms today and swinging it around inside his shorts as usual, I'm not sure he's aware or not, but I guess when you're hung you dont' care anyway, I don't. ha
tonight I got my bag all packed and ready to go in the morning with my cameras and stuff and cash stuffed into my computer case.  the carryone is packed with outfits for days and nights including a few pants and longsleeve shirt options since it will be cooler than here in OKC.  (Minneapolis) I am bringing 4 pairs of shoes not counting what I'm wearing on the plane, which seems ridiculous but its a whole outfit thing. I feel pretty gay like those guys in "best in show" who change for each part of the dog show into different outfits. but anyway, it was really that I planned for something to wear in case it was cooler blah blah..and rain, I'm bringing my Kway jacket in case.  I have this square woven plastic zip up bag that I always bring folded flat in my carryon bag.  that was, if they make me check the bag at the gate, I can throw it inside this big plastic bag and zip it which protects my carryon bag. I've done that twice when I used to travel way back ... ha
so anyway I'm up late posting this instead of crashing and sleeping because I can never sleep very soundly anyway before a flight. I kind of wake up throughout the night looking at the clock and wondering is it 4 yet...  I should be up at 4. throw the instant oatmeal in the microwave, get dressed, shove mouthguard that I sleep with in my carryon, eat breakfast, get out the door by 430 and get to the airport around 450 and get inside and to the gate. my flight isn't until 550am so as long as I'm there by 5 and to the gate by 530 I'm okay. they seem to just board and go early in the morning here, smaller airport okc.etc..
hopefully I won't have a flat in the morning. my low tire pressure light came on when I came back home from the gym tonight, and I saw that my back tire is indeed low but not flat. anyway, if I drove on a nail or something, I'm jsut hoping that there will still be enough air in there in the morning to get to the airport. if not I'll put the spare on and take care of it when I get back home.  don't you just love being so INDEPENDENT? ha think I'll try to ZZZZZZzzzz now....

ruggers.........

que interesting...

cant wait to get paid end of Augst! :)

Mark, thanks for the comment on the banner pics.  the one with the animals on the wall, I think that pic comes from an underpass walkway in Dakar Senegal from my travails years ago. :)  I love to photolog public art when I'm in new places.  No one ever commented on the baby spider monkey last week, I may have to put it back up there again. ha.
mango, I bought the tie and boardshorts at an online place called Jacksthreads.com.  lots of cheap stuff at cheap prices. it's one of those places you have to log into and then you get a bunch of emails on sales and specials, sort of annoying but I don't mind shopping those sites now and then just for something different than mall and big chain stores.
Drew, that's cool you were in the same house. but I don't want to sound like too much of a frat boy. I pledged second semester and then because of grades, my folks didn't send me back the next fall when I would have been initiated. still had a great experience as a pledge overall.  I ended up doing a few years of junior college after that until I left to an out of state private Christian college.
anon, thanks for the ideas about minneapolis, it turns out I might be busy the entire I'm there with the convention but I'm hoping for one night to get out and maybe check out the bar....we'll see.

not much going on here in okc... I had a great birthday weekend ...lots of fun. Thursday did a whole lot of nothing all day other than trips to the gym to swim laps and/or work out.  Friday night I me up with my vet friend for a yogurt date but we ended up jsut coming back to my place and hanging out and talking forever. then I met my bud S at a gay bar in town. he had a gay couple staying the night from AR until they flew out the next morning.....so I met him and the other 2 guys up there at a bar, and they had a drag show.  Drag shows can be kind of fun but this particular one was a little too raunchy for my taste. I had quite a time checking out the crowd and eyeing down a few guys that were hotties. one guy was with his boyfriend and I still stared at him a bit and felt like his bf started to look a little pissy after a while. ha. I had my super tight Postal Service tshirt on, which is my sort of "lucky shirt" if you know what I mean. ha ha.
Anyway, I didn't stay out long and got home in bed by 12 since I had a moving furniture job on Saturday morning at 615am with my friend A.  did that the next morning then home for breakfast and then to a funeral.  A told me that morning about a high school friend of ours whose husband dies of a hear attack. our friend married a quite older man but still he was like early 50's and a runner. so very sudden. anyway. so i went to the funeral at 10. and sat by one other person I knew from Highschool.  was an okay funeral. I was only there in support of my friend and didnt' really know her husband, and plus I always think it's a bit awkward when the peoplel didn't go to the church and then the pastor doing the servie doesn't really know the person and just says general things about death and what the family may be feeling or may want to remember etc...blah.
the rest of the day I hung out watching tv, youtube, and picking up and doing nothing really. ha until I went to my folks' place by 5ish for a lasagna dinner and chocolate pound cake. YUM 2 of my sisters came over too and we talked forever etc etc..
well this rest of this week will be super busy for me. my students turn in their last paper tomorrow. so I'll have to grade 20 papers between tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday morning. then get my grades in and class is OVER. fly out to MINNEAPOLIS thursday mroning and will be gone all weekend.
hope everybody had a great weekend. cheers for checking out the blog.

what a journey....

show offs! :)
