good week

week continues to roll on. I had to shop for some door prizes yesterday for this garden club meeting tomorrow night that I'm going to. I worked today on some stuff for the tables and called and confirmed the catered meal. We're at 40 people coming. woo hoo. I had a good lunch with my sister today which was fun since I don't see them on Sundays anymore so it's been a month maybe that I've seen her? anyway, we caught up and talked about her daughter who is a single mom and now dating this awesome Christian guy she met online and we are all pumped about her finding someone and getting married and having a future, etc.. since it's a LOT harder to get that once you've had a kid for most moms, but what do I know? I dunno. anyway, I still owe her daughter a cd. I usually give her a new mixed cd every Christmas but I'm way behind this year, started doing it 4 years ago and she loves 'em! ha
what I was going to blog about was something I got on facebook today. It was an invitation from my favorite college professor who is now retired. He goes to the same Episcopal church that my ex gf from college goes to back in out college town NW AR. anyway, the funny thing was that it's an invitation to hear a speaker at their church. The speaker is a former men's dorm resident director from the same Christian college we were all at, although he was there years after I'd left. He's gay now and back from seminary and speaking on homosexuality and religion/faith....something like that. So I emailed my ex gf and was joking with her about did Dr. so-and-so invite me personally or did he sent that out to all his facebook friends??? ha ha... not that I care either way, but it's sort of sweet if he sent it to me personally. I know I'm an idiot, because a lot of times I figure no one assumes anything or guesses me being gay or not etc.. ha ha. but seriously, I guess this far out of college and still single and such blah blah. so WILL I GO OR NOT for the service??? that's the question, it's in April so I'll decide later.
Well, guess who blew $500 dollars all in one day while at the same time thought he was supposed to be saving up money and not spending anything extra??? I took my truck in this morning for an oil change and got a phone call after a while (I always bike home, then bike back when my truck is ready). They called to tell me how badly I needed to replace my front tires ( I asked them to check why the front left was so flat and to fix it if it had a nail etc..) and I said sure do it. so that was about $240 for two new tires plus $37 for the oil change. Next while online this morning I get this email from about tickets to fly OKC/NYC. I signed up a while back to get alerts and this morning I got one with prices down below $300. So I went ahead and decided to make the May 17th-19th quick trip up there while my friend A is up there the same weekend. We are going have some FUN running around. I can't wait. so the plane ticket was anoth $280. ching ching.
I get paid tomorrow and will have half of the paid off my credit card and the rest by the end of the month. I may have mentioned before I like to pay my CC down to zero each month. fight the man and don't let them get me on interest! ha all that good stuff. plus it's just responsible. if I dont' have the money for something, I shouldn't be buying it.
TOmorrow I'm having lunch with my buddy S. downtown with a gay couple G and D. S's bf will be here this weekend but I'm busy with the gardening club thing tomorrow and then he and his bf are going to a Bon Jovi concert Saturday night. I'm looking forward to catch up with him at lunch thought tomorrow. hope everyone's enjoying the week. cheers.

tuesday again...

good Tuesday to you. My spring break is going rather well so far. Monday morning I was up early enough and made it over to my folks' place by 10 am to help my dad with a project out in the back yard. he's had this steel frame with a cover stretched over it in the back near his work shed with an old 40 car under it for a while, well seems like he's been framing it up with some wood and steel bars across the ceiling frame, and decided to insulate it. had ordered 4' rolls of fiberglass insulation that we cut into 25 foot lengths and then draped them over the top, stapled in, then had to get up on ladders and  on the roof a bit and screw in metal sheets one by one etc...took a nice lunch break with my mom inside who fixed us sandwiches. ha back out for more, and then I told me mom before I left that if dad was up on the ladder anymore out there, she'd better be out there with him for safety etc..
great chest day at gym yesterday afternoon. my buddy was there, and so was this other guy who I nickname Mr. Miami cause he used to always wear his sunglasses while working. anyway we were talking about that guy how he's not super huge but has tons of strength, I mean he was barbell curling with some 80lbs.  dude is married, my bud was asking him if he still boxed and he said he does the training but his wife doesn't want him boxing anymore. wah wah.
today was pretty awesome, I went down to the college to talk to my supervisor about having put my name in the hat for the position etc. and then came back home and did quite a bit of planning for class and also some yardwork, back down to the college for my night class. things went really well tonight and I was pleased with everything I'd planned.  I did get about 17 essays turned in though that I'll be grading the rest of the week and maybe next. ha
tomorrow I'll be meeting my friend A for a move job and then the rest of day doing whatever the heck comes up! ha, prolly run some shopping errands and then do some yardwork when I get back, and then gym by 4ish for my favorite - back day.
. I'm going to try and include a photo of this soap I got for Christmas, I've been using it in the shower now and then, it has a nice smell that I like the way it lingers when I'm getting into bed at night. from C.O. Bigelow.... I was pleased to find it online so I can get some more when I run out. hope everyone's having a great week !:)

spring around the corner, et al.

Good luck everyone trying to get to sleep tonight, ha your body is used to staying up an hour later and when you wake up it will feel an hour later. ugh! but we'll adjust, do it every year and spring is coming and welcome spring!
You'll never guess what I found online yesterday that really lifted my spirits...a JOB finally posted at the junior college I work at!!! I'm talking full time stuff here, serious life engaging sink my teeth into non highschool juveniles with benefits and continued state teaching retirement JOB JOB JOB! Heck yeah I got right on that and filled out the online application this weekend, uploaded again my current resume and transcripts, and first thing in the morning I'll write up a cover letter and upload and will be officially APPLIED! Now all I have to is hope for the best for an interview soon. job is posted from mar 8th until april 8th. So I don't know if that means I could get an interview before or after the deadline for applicants but I'm ready!
I'll give some background and then try not to ever post about it again until the interview! and I am really really going to try not to get too excited or optimistic about it, I really want to keep a calm and motivated head to just put my best foot forward and that's all I can do. the current head of the dept was the coordinator that hired me 3 years ago for the position, and the current Dean of the division used to be a full time prof I'd stop off and talk to now and then and who would suggest to me about teaching an online class and summer sessions and how good that'd look on my resume if anything fulltime ever came up. So I think the current people in charge have good opinions of me. The head of dept that hired me as an adjunct was always interested in my ESL background, and we continue to have chats about my high school job and what I'm doing etc.. recently I spoke to her about applying the sheltered instruction training I've had to might night class. We have also discussed the new push for "common core". teacher stuff. anyway, I look forward to some serious interview questions and see what I can come up with for responses.yikes!
THis is sort of an answered prayer and comfort from God that other opportunities may still await me in the future. I was feeling pretty bewildered leaving school for spring break. And I had made a serious decision to push myself to find something else. I gave it a lot of thought Friday how I was going to just  screw teaching high school altogether and apply for a job on the Lackland Airforce base in San Antonio. also I considered the sylvan learning center or textbook companies as a sales rep.... I dunno just anything to get me out of high school classroom. ha
I read a devotional yesterday morning about Psalm 100 showing joy and mirth no matter what the job is your doing for the Lord, which pretty much convicted me about going back after break and cheerfully doing my job reagardless of what discouraging things get to me at time.  And truly I do like being of service to the students and providing a bit of encouragement and sincere instruction in things I know will only help them succeed as I teach them English.  but this spring break was definitely needed! ha
Well you can imagine how great I felt to finally see the position posted as I was doing my weekly check.  I think I mentioned that last semester early fall, the head of the dept at the college told me that someone was retiring and keep a heads up for a posting, I never realized that would mean wait until spring break.
okay enough about that, one more thing. I'll try to post a video that my lesbian friend A. posted on her social network. It had a really great message that i think applies to a lot of things although it was mainly about a mom/wife never getting thanks for all the little things she does.  It also really made me think about my current teaching job and to just buck up and do the best I can.
this has been a great week, cloudy and wet and mild and today very cold. I went to the church down the street this morning to visit a 4th time I think and got stopped on the way out. An associate paster introduced himself and asked my name and said he noticed I'd been coming and I confessed that I never filled out the attendance sheet thing they pass around in church for members or visitors etc.. He was really nice and it made a big difference having someone actually notice and say hi when visiting.  I told him I'd be back and maybe consider a Sunday School class next week.
I'm not completely decided on the church yet because of some doctrine belief differences, but overall it's a nice house of God, great choir and music, good message and so close to my house, I dont' want to just go there for the convenience only though. ha
I went to the gym today and my buddy was there. ;) looking as usual in his shorts and sleeveless shirt. we chatted a bit, and he noticed I'd shaved my beard (which I did for break but will grow it back after next weekend).  My dad asked me to come over tomorrow to help put up some metal sheeting or siding out in the backyard on one of his sheds or workshops I guess. so that will keep me busy and up and out of here in the morning.  I get to give my mom a kiss hello without the beard which she'll love.  and then I'm probably going to get a good lunch out of tomorrow as well. oh yeah!
hope everyone is enjoying and getting geared up for spring.

up up and away....
