fun!

night and day buddies

Christmas countdown....

anyone else doing a hundred things today? I think I am.... I got a few more plants in the ground yesterday after school. they had just arrived and I needed to get them in the ground before we get our 22 low Sunday night. so no gym...:( later I went to dinner last night with my vet friend. next she and I went walking around the outlet mall here in okc for a couple of hours. I wasn't shopping or buying anything though what with my big shopping weekend in NYC coming up! woo hoo.
today I GOT to clean up this house, do tons of laundry, try to get some Christmas cards in the mail, get a few trees down from the attic and on the front porch (two 3 foot silver trees I got for $5 clearance at West Elm dallas years ago) with lights on 'em, get over to the small yet useful Whole Foods store in OKC for an errand for Christmas (I might make some cookies over break), maybe but I doubt it I'm going to try and get over to my sister's to see her new kitchen they put in last summer, and then of course pizza lunch local pizza place, and also I have a move job when my friend A gets off work at 5pm. more $$ for NYC and Christmas gifts! :) I also hope to get the fake tree put up today, I'm trying to use white, green, and natural goods this year. I wouldn't normally bother with a tree, but I plan on having family over at some point after nyc. I bet everyone is busy too this weekend, only 2 more before Christmas. Enjoy the season/remember the reason!

thurzzz

excellent Thursday, english teaching was ON today! exciting news about the admin position, seems it went to another ESL teacher who works in the district, here I thought I was a shoe in!! but I'm having such a good year with the classes I have this year that I"m not too disappointed. all is not yet lost, in that there were two positions open and the 2nd one has yet to be filled so we shall see!? My staff was all really down about the news since two of us had applied. The 3 of us on my team were talking about which school we'd be applying for and how we wanted to get out of this district!! etc etc. I tell ya what, it's a losing battle. a great great position, fulfilling and all that with the few students who care but otherwise a sad case. SO SO SO many kids who can't pass any of the tests and SO SO SO many who can't see past tomorrow, it's not just the socioeconomic status of our students. It's the fact that we have this huge huge Mexican immigrant population , theses are kids who either moved here or lived here since elementary, some even born here, but still they live in a little Mexico where they only use spanish outside of school. go figure that ten years in the system and we still have kids who test into a 2nd year ESL class!?
Some kids who come at older ages have some great educational background, but there are many many who move in during middle school or high school years who have no background, this kid is supposed to pass an algebra EOI test next year and doesn't even know basic times tables??? okay I'll shut up, rant over. I really do love the kids, we have to tell them practically daily. YOU HAVE A FUTURE, YOU CAN GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL AND HAVE A BETTER JOB, YOU CAN GO TO COLLEGE, YOU HAVE TO LEARN ENGLISH OR YOU WON'T EVER FINISH HIGH SCHOOL, YOU NEED TO FINISH HIGH SCHOOL TO GET A BETTER PAYING JOB, YOU DON'T WANT TO BE IN HIGH SCHOOL AND 21, ETC ETC ETC... There is a verse I put up on the wall in our office at school (we have our own office between the two ESL classrooms) from in Corinthians that says " If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." which has helped keep me motivated why I'm really in this job God put me in this year. :)
Is anyone a Downton Abbey fan?? I like the 1st season quite a bit, had trouble watching or getting into the 2nd since it was the war and sad and the class structures were breaking down etc etc.... however recently a friend shared season 3 with me via online, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the first three episodes so far!! there is romance and struggle and all this playing of people in the house between upstairs and downstairs people. SO GOOD!! I was crying on the way to work Wednesday morning a bit thinking of this one scene of solidarity among the family at the table. great personalities and acting.
made it to the gym today and I've put off my leg days long enough, oh how sad it was getting back to them today. my crush buddy was there, flimsy loose white shorts looking good , he's been building up his legs this fall and they are looking good from backside, you know how the glutes start to shelf out a bit and where the shirt will get bunched up a little in back and set there. all good... always helps keeping me motivated to keep going back..ha, alright time for zzzzzzs

remember summer?

check up

not happy about missing the gym yesterday, I had to go to the dentist after work for my usual 6 month cleaning. I got there early before 4, and man was I feeling dead tired sleepy on the couch waiting to be called back. I brought some papers with me from Tuesday night class to get a jump start on grading while I waited. I had had a headache yesterday afternoon, which I think was either due to the old pair of shoes I was wearing because the soles are worn down and they don't have the same support they used to, OR, maybe it was due to the wide grip chin ups I was doing Monday at the gym...so my shoulders felt tight. anyway I took an Aleve which helped. The hygienist was super nice as always and then I met the dentist.
What I hated hearing was that my far back upper right tooth had an old large filling and he was concerned about a beginning of a crack that could break and he thought I should get a crown. I alreaady have 6. He then said with my insurance, I should do this before January so that I it would count towards the limit they pay each year in case next year I went over.. something like that. which seems weird since I don't feel like I"M going to suddenly need two crowns and dental work exceeding 2000 next year. and what with the NYC trip I didn't really want to budget in the 327 that I'll end up paying since between now and the new year is when I shop in NYC, drive down to dallas after Christmas and shop more and hang and spend time with friends etc etc.
ANyway, we scheduled the crown fitting Dec 26th. but I might cancel it and see if I can't go another 6 months before getting yet another crown. It's hard to trust the young new dentist at this offic because I had the same dentist since high school until he retired last spring. although he came back to fill in for the dentist when I got my crown and another filling last summer. anyway, so it's just difficult to trust the dentist as seeing me as a cash cow, or just being honest. At this point I got to trust him because he's the one I like compared to the other newer guy who I went to once after my dentist retired and really didn't like him at all. blah!
I do like all the staff there, my dentists sister still works there and always remembers my name. and there are other pretty hygienists there I like and all the desk staff etc etc..
only 2 days left. I can't wait to get this week over with and get a weekend to get stuff done around the house. leaving last weekend really got me behind on getting stuff doen. I still yet need to make a list of places I've been reading about in NYC to check out. also I keep hoping Sandridge oil will go up just a little more before my trip so I can sell off a few shares for some extra cash to blow. :) hope everyone is making it through the week. I'm listening to my Christmas music now on itunes and making a list of the ones I like for a special mix of music. I like to hand out cd's each year if I can find enough new or old songs that make a good mix together. Friday come quick!

monday, is it the 15th yet!?!?

I survived my weekend. I survived my day today too. man what a drive down and back 6 hours. I left early right after 630am and rolled into okc about 1pm yesterday, just in time for pizza lunch at the local place. I had hoped to stop at Whole Foods on the way home and get some treats for my fellow teachers, boxes of cookies from the cookie bar there. but to no avail, they are not open until 8am. I did stop at a huge HEB store in Waco, Tx and shopped a bit for Christmas stuff. also they had some nice big planters out front marked down to $10. got two of them, I'm always thinking of my yard even in December. ha I've decided I like to investigate and discover, must be why I like shopping even if I'm not always going to buy anything, I like knowing whats out there, all options! ha
I had a great time in Austin, all my buddies friends showed up for dinner at a place on Congress St called Lucky Robot. that place was awesome. there were only about 12 of us, mainly his gay friends from his recovery program, and then one other guy who is a lawyer there and me. At each table they had an Ipad from which you can search through the menu, order, and pay with your card by swiping it on the side.. I LOVED LOVED the cheesy quesadillas, I guess with candied bacon and ginger scallions and cheese and goat cheese makes it somehow Japanese style? ha.. I ordered the Chicken Ssam which I'll try and get a photo up. it was so good, rolling up inside a lettuce leaf the chicken, peanuts, pickled cucumbers, pear slice and the rice and brown sauce and white sauce. yum um umm!
Anyway, this morning I was up at 520 and to the gym for swimming laps. plan to do same tomorrow. worked and taught all day, trying to keep kids in check so that they don't get too wired up thinking about only having two weeks of school left, I'm just as excited after all! ha and then worked out at gym after school, chest day. my crush buddy was there getting his chest all pumped up with a tshirt with sleeves cut off on. We are now at the point of him walking over to say hello and shake hands when arriving, and then same when one of us leaves. ha very hot straight guy, nothing more. he's been working legs this fall and dang if I haven't noticed a nice changed the way his shorts hang on him and all. good work!
I'm now wondering when I'll put my tree up, this year I'm trying to get a little more into the holidays since last year I wasn't even going to bother putting up the tree. THis year I plan to have my folks and sisters and families over at some point. gives a chance to hang out with all the niece and nephews and craziness. this next weekend I'll be super super busy planning the trip to NYC of course. Much more to discover there I am SURE! :) cheers all.

good work, military!
