s, a, t-u-r, d-a-y night!

I suppose one of the biggest perks of being a wallflower or a misfit toy, is the support and friendship of everyone around you stuck on the wall or the same island. but family still definitely counts for something. I saw the movie "Perks of Being a Wallflower" tonight with buddy S. we met up at his place at 6, and of course I brought him a sample of the tile and tile border I am planning to use in my bathroom, ha, and he approved. we ate at the cafe seven up by quail springs mall where the movie was showing. dinner was great,he had an awesome seasonal pasta dish and I had a turkey club sandwich. the movie was quite phenomenal. I loved it! The pacing of the story and nuances with which things are revealed are in a perfect rhythm. THere is SO much said by what is not said. What appears to be a movie about a kid trying to make friends in highschool during his freshman year is SO much more, his past, his friends' past, his friends now, his family's past and present situations. quite nostalgic for the great music in the film as well. life before cell phone, kids running around the city alone at night, finding parties, dealing with drama of romance and acceptance etc etc.. some serious moments and themes in the film, and I turned to S at one point and said "this better be a feel good film" and I suppose finally at the end it was because I was smiling and excited and S and i went on and on about the film on the way home. It made remember by gf from high school who I hung out with constantly after coming back from my first year at college and we'd go out every single weekend at "alternative" clubs in OKC. and hang out after the clubs closed to find out where an after party might be. going into strangers' houses and meeting new people from the clubs etc etc... I messaged my ex when I got home tonight to tell her to see the film. we used to hunt for music that we heard at the clubs and all the alternative bands at the time. oh man! I guess now I'll have to find the book and read the actual book, books are always better than the movies so the saying goes. I finished stripping up the subfloor today in the bathroom except the little bit in the corner under the toilet. I'm going to finish cutting up the wainscoating tomorrow and then maybe get the floor laid down while I'm waiting for Monday when the plumber shoudl be comning hopefully to install a new sink drain where the old one fell off. also I plan to have him raise the shower nozzles, that way I can put in my 5 feet tall backerboard with out haveing to worry about tiling aroun a shower nozzle. If anyone wants to comment about whether I should put the floor down so that the wainscotting comes down and rest on the subfloor, or put wainscoating in first and then have the plywood subfloow come up to that? I'm still figuring it out. ;)

friday meal

man I ate so much food tonight... we had a club meeting and I was in charge of getting the catered food ordered. poppy seed chicken/rice casserole, carrots, mashed potatoes w/ cheese and bacon, salad with these really great sweet glazed almond slices, french bread, and choice of vanilla cream, or chocolate cream cake. yum! man I went back for helpings of salad, chicken, and potatoes, and cake, and brownies from the lady sitting next to me who brought homemade brownies with tons of pecans in them. man I was FULL... I gave a ride to this lady who lives near my side of town, she's about 85 and was widowed a month and a half ago. anyway, she cried a little on the way home, but then she was laughing a lot too as we were talking about people in the club and this one lady who she asked for a ride home and she could tell the lady didn't want to.. ha ha. that mean lady!! she lives really close too. I told my friend to let me know any time she needs a ride, call me! she hates being needy though, it' just that she doesn't trust her direction at night for driving and her husband used to help her navigate at night, but now he's gone. I hope she does call, because I'll tell ya, one the old testament can't be clearer on is to take care of widows and orphans! it's my duty clean and simple as that. :)
anyway, on the way to the meeting she asked me what I would do if I had only ten years left to live and I could do anything....she said she figures she's got about ten left. I said travel, but she and her husband already have been all over the world. I got home really late because after taking the lady home, I drove outside of town to my folks' place to give them all the leftover food from the meeting. I did this because my little sister is visiting with her family of four kids, so I know they could eat up the food this weekend. ha
got home and had to sweep stuff out of the bathtub before I took a bath before bed. It's been baths all week while I have everything torn up. I'm working on getting all the supplied and tools I need... tomorrow I plan to start getting up the backerboard and tiling going... I've been watching youtube vidoes for advice and re reading the emails from the GUN! ;)
weather had been excellent all week during my fall break, I have one more week off, so I'm excited to see how much I can get done on the bathroom, plus I have quite a list of stuff to get done on the yard as well.

funny stuff..

big Friday...

hats off

I'm just sitting here listening to monks chant on the today show and waiting for a plumber to show up at my house...yawn. okay tv is OFF. I'm pretty sure the plumber was coming at 10:30 and it's 11:00 am now so I'm probably going to call and see if i can postpone it here in a bit.. that was I can maybe go to lunch with some buds downtown.. or not. Dan has been BUSY this week... I'm on fall break so I've taken advantage of the time to tear up the bathroom and get some DIY done. I tore out the shower lining and drywall and now I'm going for the vinyl floor and the sink/vanity. bought some tile this morning, bought some concrete board, before I can move any further along I have to get some pipes redone for the bath tub. switch the two faucet valve to a one faucet temperature regulator and this will also switch out the old fittings and end any leaks. I have the fittings exposed completely on both sides (there is a hallway closet behind the shower which gives great acccess. anyway........blah. lots of yard work projects this week as well> I look forward to doing all of it, especially now that I have last night's class behind me and papers returned. has anyone seen the tape of hulk hogan, big man! it's pretty interesting that he may or may not be with his best friend's wife and that the best friend may or may not be in the room next door. so weird! but it's interesting the idea of how guys are sexual in front of other guys and doesn't always have to mean something gay. same goes for stroking with guys, of course that's different than actual touching each other obviously. the lines are so fluid for guys, why does everyone need labels. blah! okay just a brief thought so I'm not just boring you with my work accounts and daily meals. another thing on my mind lately that bothers me if I think too much about it is this show on tv called "revolution" about the US 15 years after the world loses all power etc etc.. All I can think about is how gloomy the scenario is and why would'nt people leave cities and go to farms, and wouldn't there be an increased birthrate what with nothing else to do? ha but really I keep asking why does that woman have beautifully bleaches blond hair, and shouldn't all the older adults be grey grey grey haired? ha ha. among other things, but I know you have to throw yourself into the fantasy of it all. speaking of fantasy, I'm not sure how any new viewer could turn into the "once upon a time" show and understand anything... another show I've watched once is "grimm" which is creative but again, how could a new viewer suddenly fall. I'll admit they are all entertaining. okay I'm off to call about the plumber. cheers.
