summer vacation missive....

Hello from Flipnotics Cafe in Austin Texas. I'm sitting here catching up on all my emails and stuff, the post low is sort of a belated happy 4th since my buddy doesn't currently have internet in his condo, he's just started a great paying new job here in Austin and will be getting caught up on all the things he'd cut back on while doing temp work etc... Am so proud of him, I hope my job goes through well for this fall and then we're both going to back on track and ready to hopefully do some fabulous traveling next year!!:) ha.
hope all had a great 4th. Austin is AWESOME as usual...but first let's catch up from my last post in Dallas....
I went to Northhaven nursery and bought a firebush and candletree tropical plants for here in Austin, and then I bought a blood leaf banana tree to take home back to OKC...great great nursery, but hard to shop when after all I'd be driving all the way to austin and then back to OKC after a week... next went to lunch with Henry and ex of my best bud here in Austin. He and I had a great lunch downtown and he went on and on about how wonderful he was digging this new guy he met two weeks ago and considered him his new bf. after lunch I headed back up hiwy 75 to Northpark mall and walked around and round, sort of checking out what the stores were stocking and looking at everything as if I were reading a magazine. There is a Desigual store in dallas and although everything there has a lot of crazy bright colors and patching and stitching a lettering on everything, I can usually always find something I like. The only thing about that store is how everything is priced so high and a lot of the time I'm thinking well this isn't necesarrily anything better than what you'd find at a dept store, maybe it's 100% cotton but sometimes they are blends, and you don't see anything 10)% wool, usually synthetic blends etc... but I guess what with all the "details" of stitching and patching letters and designs on everything, that's the cost, also coming from Spain etc... also went to H&M and got some things as gifts mainly , didn't find anything I HAD to have . ha DUDE! I got cruised in the mall bathroom!!! I didn't even have my radar on nor in the mood as I was in shopping mode full on. ha .. so I am in the back stall sitting there taking care of business and probably texting or something and I remember thinking what the heck is the deal with the guy next to me having trouble rattling around with the tp roll thing.... like he couldn't figure it out or something.. ha whatever, anyway, I finish up, walk out, and I see this really nice looking muscular straight looking guy in boots, tight dress pants and dress shirt and carrying his sportscoat and washing his hands... okay no big deal but yeah I noticed him. I turn to the sink opposite side of his and am washing my hands and def checking out his nice solid rear view in those slacks. man! anyway, I'm still thinking nothing and that he's prob not even aware how hot he looks, but next i sort of see him with his arms up and putting on his jackets and we sort of caught eyes in the mirrors . oops.. okay so I start to walk out and go ahead and think well, is this something? before walking right out and glance behind me to see if he's aware, and oops... he's backed up to the stall doors and facing me and looking right at me sort of, and I'm glancing back thinking WHOAH!! this is a situation!!! ha ha ha.. anyway, I continue to leave directly and turn into a sunglasses shop and sort of adjust with my hands in my pocket to get ahold of the situation and calm down.. ha ha... so funny, that is not my scene at all and i was taken off guard completely but impressed at this guy. whoah... I was walking around after that thinking, dude, go home and get on the internet!!!! alas perhaps he's married and that's the only place he thinks he can connect. ahh well...
I eventually got back on the road by 4 and drove through tons of traffic Tuesday night arriving in Austin by 730 about the same time my bud got home from work.
Wednesday we drove around down town and Congress shopping at Mens Servicewear and Stag and some other places.. lot's of fun riding around with the 2 of us on H's scooter yamaha zuma. last night we walked downtown to the long center to hear the orchestra play while an amazing show of fireworks went off... this morning i got up and biked to the YMCA to swim laps while buddy was off to his job. I'm at the cafe now using there wireless and next biking back to H's condo on Lamar, lunch with a former Honduran student and then some shopping and running around this afternoon. :) cheers all hope you're enjoying the week. feel free to leave any comments....

Happy Independence Day!!!

dallas....

hello from dallas, arrived here at Randy and K's place around 10 pm, and had a good chat with K as Randy was out...crashed by 11 but did hear Randy come in and he knocked on the door and said hello Just woke up this morning and my first thought was, crap I left the bike in my truck...I got up immediately and saw it was still there and brought it up to the front porch behind the bushes etc... You can never be too careful and ever since I heard an NPR story on the radio about bike thieves, I'm always on the alert! ha I don't have any pets, but I'm open to having a dog or cat, and probably lean more to having a cat since they are easier to keep and such. But it's funny to me what a "dog person" i have to become when I visit friends here in Texas. Randy and K have 2 big dogs, one a healer/shepherd mix and the other i dunno and something pit bull, but they bark a lot and when you come in there are two treats on the side table so you can give them both one. ha anyway, so I came in and did that and then pet them pet them pet them. ha ha, and this morning, same thing, when I went out to the front drive, the one dog barked and I had to pet and pet and pet.. ha ha. it's just funny cause I'm not used getting all doggy and hairy. same thing when I stay with H in Austin. He has a dog and I sort of pet it and gently push it off my side of the bed while there etc... sometimes I'll pet it very lovingly depending on my mood. He has a black dog half pit and half Labrador. One thing I really like about H's dog is how well he dives underwater. It's a great trick at the water park, throwing rocks or good sized stones in the water and the dog actually dives under water and brings them up in his mouth. very cool. I heard this song on the radio last night about "so what we get drunk, so what we smoke week" that really seemed depressing. the idea of kids listening to that sort of music and all the lyrics really seemed disgusting, I know it's free world and all and youth is great and all but what a loser song, lot of sad lost people out there if that's all they attain to do.. we sure have our freedom in the country to do everything, but that doesn't make everything right.... My hosts here in Dallas are leaving early on a camping trip, so I plan on heading out just as early, number one stop is my favorite nursery here in dallas, ! the mall next and then make my way to Beautiful Austin. I don't have a camera this trip which sucks, after returning from my sister's last week, I've not been able to find my camera....I thought it might be in my pickup or show up in my bags while packing but no luck. I really wanted to take a picture of my other camera that I found in the backyard last weekend. it's sort of rusted and corroded a little bit, my good ole Sony digital camera....I lost it this last spring and looked all over my truck and house and kept thinking I'd set it down somewhere, sure enough I was going through some gardening supplies outside stacked up by a tree in the backyard and there was my sad wet camera, laying out there in the elements all this time...sorry little camera. Now if I can just find my other camera which the Sony had replaced blah. okay the guys are stirring and are getting up, so I'm gonna go get my breakfast. hope everyone is set for July 4th. cheers!

summer vacations etc...

I went swimming as early as possible Saturday morning, which was at 8:15 when the pool opens at my local gym. I was there showered off and wet and ready waiting at the door from the locker room when they unlocked it. As first one in the pool, I got to slip in while the surface of the water was still as glass...because of this, instead of my first lap down the length of the pool swimming underwater, I turned over and looked up at the surface. what fun! Although it's a little hard to hold your breath while swimming underwater facing up. I held my nose at some points and just kept looking up at the lights on the ceiling blurred by the water. I loved doing that, and then I began just swimming my laps in a nice calm pool until another person got in on the other side. but it was still a great beginning to Saturday..survived the weekend without spending too much money.... I went to a movie w/ buddy S at Penn Square mall and was able to exchange some jeans that were way too small for me. The jeans were a gift I received out of the blue in the mail last week from my former student who lives and works in NYC. I exchanged the 30/32 for my perfect fit 32/34. (waist/length). I have them packed for the trip to Texas this week, just in case I need jeans, but most likely I'll be in shorts the entire time. and riding bikes. and lunching with former students or WINDOW shopping a bit during the day while my buddy H is at work.
I stepped on one of my water sprinklers this morning, so I'll have to go get an0ther one before hitting the road, I have a bunch of sprinklers set up on timers to water the beds at night while I'm gone.
Class went amazingly well this morning, worked with the students while they did peer reviews on one another's essays. Now I'm off to the dentist for a crown and filling and not looking forward to it AT ALL. ha ha, but it has to be done and I've cancelled the last two appointments..... hopefully I'll adjust to the temp crown while gone this week, usually not a problem for me. the BEST thing about it all, is my dentist that I've had since 9nth grade is working this week in place of someone on vacation. He retired last year and it sucks trying to find someone new that I'm comfortable with in the dental chair. ha he is very awesome.
after the appointment I'll be back home packing the little pickup and getting on my way to Dallas. plan to stay with buddy Randy P in Dallas tonight and then on my way to Austin tomorrow. I can do all my shopping in Austin, however i MAYBE will stop off at North Park tomorrow morning just to see what is there at Desigual and H&M at north park mall. blah blah...
actually all my funds are going to gas money this week. not really going to be shopping for much just looking around. hope everyone is getting geared up for a fun 4th! :)
