switch out the lights...

table rock morning

Good Morning from Lampe Missouri!  Wednesday morning I was at my friend A's work by 6:15am to move furniture out of a mobile home on the lot and into another that they were backing up and just delivering at 6:30 am.. an extra $100 made and I was out of there by 8:15am drove back home, breakfast, shaved, perused the yard outside then back in the pickup to get to the college by 930 for my office hours before class.  a good group of students showed up. I'm worried about one guy that was in a writing class last semester, it's a class they make you take if you don't qualify for comp I.  well anyway, there was another new guy showing up who is sort of nice looking and seems pretty motivated , only thing sucks is the nasty ear things in his ear lobes, I forget what they are called but those disgusting rings guys put in their ears that get bigger and bigger... they're gross. no offense to anyone reading with that, but gross.
I will give it to the guys who are looking pretty rough and rock and roll maybe some tattoos, you know, really embracing the style. but like this guy in my class who is dressed all normal and then has those things in his ears. I just think to myself, man, think of another way to show the world "I'm alternative!".. ha ha.  anyway, I'm sure he's a great guy etc...
went home from class, had lunch, it rained most of the rest of the day so I couldn't mow, instead went over to A's to hang out (she's off on Wed) and next to the grocery store to stock up on stuff my sisters told me to bring this weekend.  Yesterday I waited for my sis to get into town from Mangum, then we hit the road ... driving through Tulsa, Siloam Springs, Rogers, and then here to Table Rock Lake.  My other two sisters and spouses and mom and dad were already here, we had a great time last night relaxing and talking and doing nothing.  this place has 5 rooms and 4.5 baths. except today my brother and his wife will arrive so I'll take a blow up mattress my parents brought and he'll get the nice room I slept in last night. I'm good at camping out and sleeping about anywhere so I'm fine on the blow up mattress 2 more nights.   Today there will be some of us hitting the outlet mall near, others golfing all morning, and then tonight we're eating out in Branson, tomorrow my brother has rented a pontoon boat so we can hang out on the lake all day. hope everyone enjoys a great weekend. I'll try to still get some pics posted when/if possible...  someone comment on the skateboard video. I thought it was cool how they edited in some old park footage into the video.

homosocial?

I came across these photos of Chinese propaganda posters supporting acceptance of Russia at the time... anyway online they were discussing them as homoerotic and it made me think, why must anytime a guy is touching a guy be considered homoerotic? Is it oversexed cultures that assume that's exactly what the artist intended? or was it really what was intended? or no... Lots of cultures have physical touching behavior that is nothing sexual, perhaps it's just our macho hangups here in the states... Of course I'm no better, the pics on this blog of innocent wrestling around or prank performing guys with each other are mostly just that. In fact the beauty of it makes me want to post such pics.. although the drunken party chest baring hanging all over pics are also great to give one ideas what might happen if those guys are like you, wanting more than the innocent touch. ha
anyway, I read on the closetprofessors blog ( I think it was) about homosocial behavior and it made me think of an online conversation I had once with a bud, we were discussing the whole gay thing and he seemed to think maybe he wouldn't be gay if he'd hung out with guys more in school while growing up, maybe been involved more in sports etc, or had his dad given him more support and involvement and direction. He seemed to think that's what led him to first be curious about guys and seek the physical attention he wanted albeit sexually. I wasn't getting into a whole nurture/nature debate with him, but we discussed there are plenty of guys who grew up very active in sports and around guys all the time who were still gay etc etc... anyway, the reason I mention it is after reading the blog and the term homosocial, I began to think about that guy and how he felt he missed out homosocial time. blah blah. just thoughts.
I know I loved hanging with just the guys in college , was nothing better. Although my homosocial time now is pretty lacking, thank the Lord for buddy S here in okc, he's like a good brother I never had. what a friend! :)
long day planned tomorrow, moving furniture at 6:15am (so much for morning swim! ugh) breakfast back home at 8am ish, off to school at 9am for office hours at 9;30 before my 10:45 class etc etc.. then back home tomorrow to pack up and make a grocery list for my weekend vacay! ah yeah! cheers all.

summer's begun

I swear I'm not a girl, but the best thing about my first week of summer so far is seeing the Meredith and David Beckham interviews on NBC morning show!! ha ha. hope everyone is having a good week. I had a stock club meeting last night and we went away thinking about buying KMI stock, although one person wants to buy into Transatlantic Canada/USA stock expecting it to go up once the pipeline gets built. and another person was joking about how Nokia tanked ever since we bought it and the club said well maybe when Windows 8 comes out this fall it will go up. I threw out the suggestion TCAP with dividends at 10%, because the club is way conservative only likes to buy stocks with dividends etc.. Anyway, the same member pushing us to buy Transatlantic went to the Sandridge stockholders meeting and reported on all that was said. I finished up school last Friday, had my truck packed up and was all checked out, keys turned in, and gone for lunch by 11:30 never to return until July 27th.
I plan to go back and teach a few months while waiting for the government contract to come through. I most likely will take the job at the language school, it pays 44% more than I'm making now and its exactly the job I dream of doing: teaching English language to highly motivated young adults! I think I can be just as much a service to all the international military students that come in as I have been to the kids at the inner city school. I won't list all the things that are extremely lacking in the public school I'm currently working at, but it's enough for me to change jobs and go year round working in Norman. I will brainstorming all summer about buying a house in Norman, and also about saving up for another car. I need a real car not just the pickup, so I'm going to buy another Ford, perhaps an Edge, Focus, Escape, Fusion...something like that 4 door and something I could take people places in! Of course no for sure word on the govt contract coming through until late September but my former roommate assures me things are looknig good. If not, I'll continue on at the public school, including interviewing for any admin positions this summer that come up in the language and services dept for the district.
I'm back to morning swims this week! such a great way to get up and go every morning... yesterday began teaching my COMP 1 summer class at the community college, got off to a great first class, lecturing about the syllabus, how to come to class and not fail, jumped into teaching chapters one and two, and then a few group activities and two homework assignments. whew, I look forward to getting to know all the students, quite a variety of ages and nationalities in the class. two girls in head dress, an East Indian girl, a Chinese guy and girl, super tall dude, latino guy, 3 or 4 older women back to college types, variety of others including one guy who is going to be a junior in high school next year, whoah, talk about getting a head start!
well the next two days I'll be getting read for summer vacation to Branson this weekend. I am driving up with my younger sister on Thursday morning until Sunday. My two sisters and spouses are driving up Wed with my mom and dad, and then my brother and wife are meeting us there Friday. yay for family! and summer! and for Tuesday! cheers all.
somebody needs to comment on the video below, either for the filming, the skating, or the groovy song. :)
