weekend camera

good morning Wichita!

I'm at a wedding in Wichita this weekend. I had a great drive up here yesterday, stopping off in Tonkawa to get a gift for my niece and her new hubby.
Tonkawa is an old old town, small, with a main street and lots of old houses and a few churches. I liked turning onto the road to find this guys studio and the whole street was paved in red brick. His studio was next to a Catholic church in a building that used to be part of a parochial school long ago. I didn't see anything for my own place that really spoke to me or had to have, but I found a nice painting of a church in San Antonio that will make a nice gift..
The hotel here is pretty nice, my folks and my sister and her family are staying here also. so it was fun hanging out after the rehearsal dinner last night downstairs and then in mom and dad's room for a while before bed. I was cracking up at my sister when we left my mom and dad's room last night because before I went into my room caught a glance of her dashing around the corner to go down the stairs, racing her daughter who took the elevator. ha so cute.
Both families, my brother and wife and the groom's family, are solid Christian families and last night had nothing but love and nice things to say for the spouse that their kid had chosen to marry. so both families are really happy about the union.
the wedding is this morning and then a lunch reception. next I'll be driving over to AR to visit my college buds. first J's house to help him with some yardwork ( I bought some things online for his yard that were delivered yesterday) and then tomorrow my ex gf and I plan to see a community theatre production of "The Ordinaries" and then maybe see the new Walton Art Museum in Rogers.
hope everyone enjoys an awesome spring weekend. let me know what you're up to! comment below :)
ps. I'm watching Kitchen Cousins this morning on cable tv here ( I don't have HGTV) and what a cute couple of construction workers. nice show!

more Bon Iver....

some report

you can "sub" me anyday....

can you believe someone could be fired for a job they had in the PAST!?!?! I mean, yeah obviously, a job as former porn star is going to raise eyebrows and whatnot. But it still seems unreal in 2012 that a person would actually be fired and even have a certificate revoked because of a former job. I read this article "Florida teacher, Shawn Loftis, with gay porn past gets job back" (by the way if that's an article title, why don't they capitalize all the words? must be an online rule.. maybe some journalism person knows..) I also saw this dumb, i mean really DUMB, interview with some loud mouth woman on CNN trying to make a point about nothing and as usual trying to bring out the scandal of it all instead of the rights the guy has to teach... video is no longer posted . however, it's interesting the way her whole interview said "porn star" and leaves out the "gay" part. another interview with dr. drew here. tries to make some kind of point, still unclear.
Seems to me that like the guy says, if nobody would have mentioned anything about his big.... uh... secret porn star past in the first place, no child ever would have known or looked anything up online in the first place.
I can't think of any legal basis for firing a substitute teacher or revoking a liscnese based on past employment, but I'm not sure about current money made off personal websites, although I suppose substitute teachers are allowed to have other jobs on the side. all very strange.
I like what the one lady says along the lines of, hey this is Miami and who cares? ha

you've got to be taught

I was watching a clip of the South Pacific movie of the song "You've Got to Be Taught." At the time it was a message to the viewer about racism and how the character in the movie was struggling with the conflict of falling in love with an island girl, and then a nurse falling in love with a French man who has some bi racial polynesian children. well, anyway, I started to think how one might apply that song to the Christian church and the way they raise children or perhaps encourage one another against homosexual people. it must be taught right?
It's a shame that churches cannot teach to love all, accept all, and not to judge lest they be judged. I guess what I'm getting at is the ole saying "hate the sin, not the sinner." I'm not saying you have to accept them into your church, but with separation of church and state they are an equal part of community. I think more focus should be put on the way you don't judge people as unbelievers as well. Let them go about their business. ok well there's some 2 cents, I'm not getting into any further it's too late and I'll start to ramble.
today was a GREAT start to my break. super weather, I watched tv all morning and graded some papers and walked around the yard, swam laps at the gym before lunch (my goal is to swim and workout all week, a sort of spring break boot camp), and then continued to relax all afternoon grading a few papers and yard work. than around 5 I drove over to a friend's work and earned $100 for an hour and a half of work. we moved some furniture from a container to a mobile home on the same lot. Wednesday I'll do it again. I'm going to use the cash to buy some artwork on Friday for my niece as a wedding present.
I'm super excited to see this artists gallery/studio in Tonkawa Oklahoma, stopping by on my way up to Wichita for the wedding.
hope everyone got off to a good start to the week! :)

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON
