new years eve day

I saw the movie Avatar last weekend with my Austin bud who was in town... IT WAS AWESOME.. I'ts not just hype, the effects are so stunning and as the story rolls along, you are completely captured by everything on screen. OK, well first of all this was my first ever 3D movie. I never thought much of 3D movies, but the way they are made today. oh my! dang if they could that science into porn films, it'd be pretty wild. ha
anyway, this is DEFINITELY one to see AT A THEATRE. sure it's predictable and pretty stereotypical, but man what a FUN RIDE! serious!
I am driving down to Dallas this morning for New Years. Blogger buddy Wyatt lives down there and I'm going to help him move some stuff into a new place, and then later tonight I'll be meeting some OKC buds in town for New Years. Friday I plan to shop a few favorite places for next year's Christmas stuff, and then most likely come back on Saturday or Sunday depending on what there is to do in Dallas.
I'm looking forward to the drive and having some good mind rambling think time. you know like when you run at the gym or mowing the yard. I hope to bring up to myself what I have done this last year with myself and where I want to see my career going next year. I'll need to consider is it my house and yard keeping me from moving from OKC or is it family? I also want to consider options of teaching in San Antonio or applying with DOD schools for something overseas. I also want to think back on what I've been able to do this last year in serving God and what opportunities or what more I can do this next year to keep that part of my life more meaningful. In what ways can I be more available for Him to use my life, and I want to consider my purpose for who I am and what I'm doing. well anyway, those are the things I'll be going over with myself.
I also want to look back on last year and the resolution I had of drinking nothing but water. I stopped drinking and juice or coke or anything since last jan 1. Although I did have about 6 cokes this year, and then of course beers when I've been out drinking which is not often. I'll probably keep it up but I need to get back to swimming laps this year. I stopped at some point last spring (it has been a mental thing for me about not having the right swimsuit and being too lazy in following through getting one I like, don't get me started).
I am going to aim for less porn this year, and try to get out and find something real and physical and heart-felt with a real person. I also want to set a new years goal of ZERO online chat(cruise sites that is) or contact or checking of Craigslist. been there done that and it's become pretty retarded I've decided the WHOLE thing.(go figure).
I also need to consider which friends are worth keeping and which ones I need to lay off on and stop being the person keeping things going... if that makes sense.
I mentioned the guy that came over last week from the internet. young hot blond guy i think was 23, beautiful face and hot legs, he was a dancer in college. anyway, what a boring time, first off was exciting talking and touching and getting closer, eventually making out and grinding, but as the clothes came off and we were messing around it became routine, too easy, too generic and blah. anyway, we took care of ourselves and he headed out completely satisfied, but I was hiding my discontent and probably gave an unconvincing "I'll be in touch".
what an awful way to end my new years eve post, quick let's get this back upbeat. My roomie is moving out this next weekend, and then I'll possibly have a new houseguest in a few weeks, the bf of my neice that ran away from home last semester and has been living with my sister. long story. he's 18, and my family got him a great full time job, and a church connection got him a car for $50. now he needs a place to live cheap. so that will be with me. I actually do like having someone around, plus I hear he's extrememly neat.
I am excited to get back to work next week and see what new students are in all my classes. I am also going to start throwing myself into applying at local schools this spring, DOD, and research more about the San Antonio job as far as pay and living expenses there etc. the thing about applying at local schools is writing out these essays about my philosophy of teaching or why I'm a teacher .... all which I take pretty seriously in writing of course. but ugh
TRAVEL...I definitely want to continue to travel. which means saving up the CASH. I know I have a DC trip in mind for this spring. we shall see.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you.

take your pick..........

BBC world news article concerning India...

interesting aricle on BBC NEWS from a purely sociological perspective, of course...
Condoms 'too big' for Indian men
anyone want to comment and admit to having this problem, or perhaps NOT having this problem?? :)

----for safety's sake, let's do hope that a variety of sizes can be made more available in India. I should say here to all readers, there are a lot of real diseases you can catch from sexual contact, and as a guy, you must know that guys will tell you anything and lie just as much, big or small, as you would yourself to get some. Make a decision to love and value yourself enough to consider protection and don't play a game of chance. although there some great medications now for HIV, it's definitely not easy to afford or live with, much less how it would affect your life in disclosing to guys you sleep around with... alright end of PSA...

sexy, right?

SPYRADIO...

I must PROMOTE this radio station. especially to listeners in OKC, but really anyone who likes a good internet radio choice. this stuff is GREAT. well part of it is that I'm from OKC, and growing up here, well you just never would have thought of hearing actual alternative music on your car radio. ha I mean there were "alternative rock" stations but that was just the same marketed crap as anything else really. I mean you're just nickelbacked to death seriously. when I first got back from Central America this station was on the air and I couldnt' believe it, and I pretty much jsut left my car radio set to it until one sad sad day, it switched to a Mexican music station for reasons of financial backing. so sad....
well it's BACK. for any readers in OKC tune in to 105.3 and if interested for the online radio stream, www.thespyfm.com will set you UP.
I read in a local paper last week that they were back on air, and tuned in wondering if it was going to be just a lot of new order and smiths songs again, but on the myspace page I saw the cover album for Vampire Weekend, and then while listening this last weekend I heard Kaizer Chiefs and Temper Trap as well as some local OKC bands etc... what a truly alternative station and not just all the usual crap pushed on us by those that want to sell whatever they think we want to hear etc... blah
check it out! :) ( the pic has nothing to do with the station, just thought it was rather alternative looking itself.)

Sweet Christmas Break...and stuck in limbo...

I've been really enjoying the break, just relaxing at home, killing way too much time online watching Hulu videos. cruising some online sites, and actually cleaned up my place a bit. ha today my goal is to make the kitchen as clean as possible which means NOTHING on a single counter, we'll see...
My family set a limit for amount spent on gifts this year so I had all my shopping done last week, and by Thursday a ton of snow hit okc (record 14") as you may have already known about since the whole midwest and east coast was with weather last week. I got most of my last minute errands done on Wednesday which involved buying some tissue paper to make snow ball decorations with for the family's Chrismas dinner tables (I'm the creative son that gets to help with that task. ha). I would have ventured out Thursday for some white yarn and groceries but the snow was coming down too heavy and I was in the mood to just stay inside!
Christmas eve was home all night wrapping gifts. My family gets together for dinner on Christmas day which allows all my siblings to have Christmas on Eve or the morning of.

I was woken at 2:30am by a phone call from my "houseguesst" on the front porch asking me to unlock the door. He was fool enough to drive from Tulsa to OKC in the snow. leaving at 3pm and taking 9 hours to reach Okc. CRAZY!he should be moving out by end of this week btw, I never gave him a key since I considered his stay short term and without rent...

LOTS of cars on the side of the road while I was driving over to my folks after lunch Christmas day. hung out there all day with my family, everyone arrived safely about 20 of us in all, and eventually all left by 8 or 9pm after dinner and I stayed the night at my folks' place. luckily mom had a new toothbrush handy for visitors. I didn't feel like driving back on the icy roads plus had nothing to come home to anyway. Also I could enjoy their home, digital cable channels, food, and hlep clean up and put things away the next day. My most thrilling present to give this year was a photo I had restored for my mom, a picture of my grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandmother who is holding in her lap my mom's older sister as a baby. I guess the photo was from the 40's?? She was really surprised and had forgotten I took it last summer to research getting it restored. ha What's funny is in the photo my grandad who is about 23 at the time is holding a cigarrette in his hand right behind his grandmother's right shoulder and how funny it seems with the old lady in the photo much less the baby on her lap in the same room. ha
My mother is from Little Neck in Long Island, and her family goes back into time to Connecticut which has always fascinated me since I grew up in OK and never knew any of her side of the family etc..
Another huge thrill was receiving a gift in the mail from a blog reader!!! WOW!!!! I mean what better time of the year than Christmas to get a surprise package in the mail. much less stuff that you truly wanted. ha. Thing is, I completely forgot about my shameless plug back during my birthday post about having a wishlist on amazon.com as daninokc. I'm the kind of guy who has the "love language" of gifts, where I usually express my love or concern by wanting to do things or give people things (rivalling my love language of physical touch, just saying), so when a box of books arrived it really made my week. THANKS AGAIN PG!! we've already exchanged some emails but thanks again and I wanted to say it on the blog as well. very cool of you.
Now, this week is the stuck in limbo phase, that time between Christmas and New Years, wrapping up the year, people in and out of town, making plans to see each other, spend time with family off work or kids out of school or NEW YEARS. Usually I stay home on New Years or at least try to. I told myself many years ago that until I'm in an actual relationship, no more New Years anywhere! ha, well I don't mind a party or two, but at midnight I'd rather be on my home or at home watching the ball drop. I know how dull does that sound but I made a pact with myself. ha
this year, I'm possibly going to Dallas. more on that later. I planned on going down anyway to visit Wyatt buddy so I'm thinking maybe a day earlier to hang with some OKC friends going down for new years eve. we shall see.
so I'd like to hear some comments from any readers willing, what are your new years plans? feeling on New years? Christmas or snowed in experiences? guess I may have to check your blog posts for that. I'll be posting soon on this kid that came over last week, my boring online gay cruise time while home off work, and the AWESOME movie Avatar SOON....

college days remembered a bit....

i was just thinking about my first year at college this morning before I rolled out of bed. I went to a state school here in Oklahoma with huge classes and shared bathroom dormitories. I also pledged a fraternity second semester that year. It was the first year I got drunk regularly with guys and noticed some hanging on me or getting a lot friendlier. I'd stay over with some buds from high school now and then on the floor of their dormroom and it was the first time I'd hear guys jerking it off at night with me in the same room. I've developed fantasies about those two guys together ever since, i guess that's why. I remember one morning going over to get J who was in a class with me, and knocked on the door walking in and E was in his bed and J was already gone. that was weird but I always wondered what the heck.
oh yeah the dorm showers, first time I saw a bunch of male nudity since I was no big jock in high school. also at the bars or parties on weekends, drunk guys whipping it out in the bathroom sink or back deck of frat house, showing it proudly.
first year I started getting comments as hung, since it was pretty noticeable on a stick like me. I got self conscious of it at the time. now it's all good and I got some meat on me these days to even things out.ha
So I was thinking today I'm going to search out this one hot guy across the hall from my room when I lived in the dorm, I'd heard later that he liked guys. He lived with this taller blond jock type who would bring girls home all the time. I remember he was one of the friendly drunk ones back in college at parties. anyway, I'm wondering today if facebook search will bring anything, i know his high school, year he graduated and first name only. hmmm who knows.
Also I remember the gym at the health complex at the college and how I had just started trying to work out and was way too shy to even consider the steam room there, I was too self conscious of my body/dick I guess. I wonder now and remember all the guys in and out of the locker rooms there, oh man. I also remember some older college guys asking me along on weekends and how awesome it felt as a freshman, isn't it weird how your freshman year you just look up to the older guys even though after college 2 years difference is Nothing! still made an impression on me. I remember being in their room at the frat house upstairs where the member rooms were (pledges were all downstairs 4-8 to a room) and the guys would have the doors locked drinking and talking about screwing girls or their porn or how they'd jerk it etc..I was just laughing it off at the time and taking it all in, i wonder now which ones might have been joking with me for a reason about all that.
well Christmas is a time to remember the past so I guess there's a little reminiscing for ya.. ha

busy weekend...

well ya know it's that time of year.....hundred things to do once I got the time. I got all my grades in THursday afternoon...btw, I met the other adjunct professor who left his facebook account open. he's a basically nice guy and from the conversation I saw while his window was open on my screen, a total top stud. I told him no sweat, I'm having the exact same kind of conversations all the time online ha ha. he was cool with it and thankful cause he thought he left it signed in at the library not our office. oops.
so now I"m free until the 12th of Jan.. ahh yeah. messaged a bit with dallas blogger buddy and should be heading down there next weekend to help move some stuff with my pickup, that and moral support in general.
went out with a bud last night for a quick bite and then to another bud's house in the city here. the dude bought a really nice place with a pool built in the back etc etc.. man we talked and laughed about all sorts of stuff for a while. bunch of gay hook up stories and dick talk basically. ha. today I was volunteering downtown all morning, then the gym, then lunch and over to my folk's place to see my sis in town with the 2 neices and 2 nephews... ahhh...
I was at the gym today checking out this one guy doing abs and thinking, man what happened to my whole abs routine. over a year ago when I was living on the air base in Kabul I'd spend 20 or more minutes just doing some abs, after running 5k on the trademill, then go into one body part for an hour more. ha ha. that's the base life definitely, i mean I don't miss it, but when I think of all the gym time. wow. of course having a bunch of international troops randomly coming and going in the gym the whole time definitely kept me in there. ha. I was watching the P90X commercial on the tv while warming up on the cardio machine. just got me thinking about how much I used to work out constantly, well there was NOTHING else to do one base anyway. I am definitely going to start gettingt a daily swim in again when my new year routine gets started up after the holidays. HAVE TO!
hope you all are enjoying the holiday season. I definitely am. getting stuff done around the house and back and forth to see my family. lots of charlie brown Christmas in the background and some internet radio christmas classics from Big R Radio also keeping me going....

men in shorts

life of Dan...

well it's Christmas party time of year. and this weekend it's two. last night I went to a big yearly Christmas party at this girls condo from the singles group/bible study I used to attend. saw some of the same single people from past single events with that group... knowing most of the people makes the whole single thing a lot less threatening as far as anyone trying meet up and date. by now we would ahve already considered someone in the group. ha I like to go just because there are some nice people there and it's good to just talk to 'em and catch up what's going on in okc etc... My former trainer was there last night, the sportswriter. great great guy and he noticed I was a little bigger than when we used to train. ha I told him, he shoudl have seen me when I first got back from overseas last year.
Tonight I was invited to my ex gf party up in AR where a lot of my married friends live and are going to the party, but I'm counting out this year. there is another party here in OKC I'll be attending with a gay buddy of mine. Another gay guy's annual get together with various guys in the community here in okc. so that will also be awesome cause I love just talking to people and not being at some bar with the usual pretenses.
man I'm tired today and sort of headachy. that's what I get for doing shoulders Wednesday at the gym. second day is when the soreness always hits me.
I was commenting to my dallas buddy this week how I wasn't really looking much to hook up in NYC last weekend and that lately I'm thinking more along the line of keeping my body and parts more to myself. I mean sort of save it for the next RIGHT one. just the next NEEDED release one...if that makes sense. I'm hoping to build up a sort of self regard and keep myself a mystery to be shared with someone deserving. ha now that sounds like a girl. oh no. anyway, this could all change in a week, as I'll have many days off between now and next semester...
ok well back to grading papers and keeping warm here at the table, and thinking about what to wear to the party tonight...

bright lights big city last weekend.....

arrived to NYC last Thursday around 2pm and got into Manhattan about an hour later, and to my hotel from grand central by 4pm. I got all checked in to my hotel and then back into the city and TIME SQUARE woot woot..by 5:30..and then picked up my tickets at the St James theatre and back there by 7pm to see Finian's Rainbow. I was right smack in the middle about row N. Excellent show, perfect song and dance experience on broadway. The guy playing Finian was an absolute genius with ever word, move, gesture, and turn. WOW, the guy playing the leprechaun also did an excellent job, complete cream of the crop up on that stage. I have to admit one of the things that lead me to see FR was Cheyenne Jackson in the cast. He does a good job, strong voice, and looks good in the jeans. But I have to say Finian and the Leprachaun really stole the show for me. OK, so the absolute highlight of my trip to NYC happened next, I got to go backstage after the show. I was so nervous and excited and hyped up after the show. and the cast was walking all around back and forth. My friend who works backstage introduced me to each one saying how I'd come from OKC to see the show and I was saying "wonderful job, loved the show!" to everyone. ha ha. I even got to shake Jackson's hand. wow, who would have thought while I was back in AFghanistan watching youtube clips of him in Xanadu that over a year later I'd be in NYC meeting the guy. Woot Woot.. Incredible!
My Austin buddy had been in a meeting with Cadzwell earler and we were going to meet up after I went to the show at a club called "Beauty Bar" where Cadzwell was dj-ing that night. However, it didn't work out and I decided to swing by the Gym bar and after a few drinks and looking around went back to the hotel and crashed!
Friday I woke up and headed up to Rockefeller center, to see the tree and all...stood outside of the NBC studio for a little while. The end of the Kathy Lee and Hoda hour was going on and you could kind of see them inside so that was cool. walked aroudn shopping after that, taking pictures and all. Austin buddy called at had some free time after he had to return a chair west side from a photo shoot the previous day. we met up and had lunch and caught up, it'd been a LONG while since seeing him on the Sante Fe road trip last summer (and with the boyfriend, man do we talk WAY less these days) but it's all good. We walked back up to Rockefellfer center and met up with his BF, then down to bryant park, and then said our goodbyes... they had things to do and I had to get back to the hotel and get ready for my DATE. ha
I had a date with this guy I met last summer in SF , we'll call him P. P works in down by wallstreet and is a workaholic! seriously, well we had agreed on dinner at Arriba Arriba on 51st and 9th. Awesome time and he's a super smart guy and we talked over dinner the whole time(btw the place had great music and excellent atmosphere!). after that we walked all the way down to meatpacking district and he explained all sorts of things about NYC, and we checked out the highline, and then walked to the river and along the bank and out on the chelsea pier(name?), and gazed across the river over into new jersy. He explained how the banks all have their buildings spread out now and ready to go in case there were ever another attack on wall street. He lead me over towards Stonewall next, and then walked me back near the hotel, by now it was about a quarter til 1am, and we said our goodbyes as he went for a taxi and I walked down Jane street to my hotel. ( yeah awkward moment, I wasn't sure about the kiss thing or not and to be honest not sure how much we really connected other than we both love learning things and love to travel) He wasn't exactly asking me over to his place or anything, and my hotel room was a SINGLE, literally the size of a double bed, half of which was a twin bed. we'll see how it goes with emails and if I ever get back to NYC.
Saturday!! Soho and Fidi on my list. walked down greenwich to photograph the former house of Robert Isabell that I blogged about doing before. then shopped all over Soho eventually getting on a subway down to Century 21 dept store for a bit more shopping and then Seaport to check it out and also buy a ticket for Hair. got a taxi back to my hotel to unload all my bags and get ready to meet up with a former student in Brooklyn. A guy, LO, I taught in Central america is living in Brooklyn just now and another girl student, LZ, was in town from Philly. I met with both of them for dinner in Williamsburg, so much fun! LO showed me a furniture gallery he's interning at, and then we met up with LZ in town from PA. I've known them since teaching them in 7th and 8th grade and couldn't be more proud of all the steps they're making in life. LO took me by one of his favorite bookstores on the way to the substop and bought me a book "Design as Art" by Bruno Munari. ahhhhh. we left LZ on the L train and took a sub north towards the Al Hirschfield theatre for Hair. I had only bought one ticket earlier, but told LO to come and I'd get him whatever ticket was left to see the show. 3 months in NYC and he hadn't seen a broadway show yet. get this! my ticket was orchestra 8 rows back furthest left seat, which wasn't too bad really although a side view. So we get there before the show and I ask them for one ticket whatever they have etc. the ticket they sell me is orchestra 5 rows back center!!! ha ha, well of course I'm nice and let LO have the ticket. excellent seat. to his right on the other side of the aisle was Kate Beckinsale. after the show she very kindly let me take a picture of her with LO. ahhh. so yeah he enjoyed it. I also really liked the preformance, having seen the movie and owning the soundtrack in college. what a night. we split up after the show and I headed towards some bars in chelsea eventually ending up at Monster ( which according to P is mainly B and T crowd. ha).
ok so SUnday morning basically got packed and slowly made my way back to grand central etc.... back home Sunday night. what a trip!!! can't wait to get back.
