last night here, I'm about to take a bus downtown and meet up with some former students after they get out of their college classes. going to chilis and then getting a ride back up the hill with one of 'em. I finished my last day of teaching classes here and was even paid $240 for the "subbing" job. not bad.
I'll be getting a ride to the airport from the school tomorrow morning and then waiting around at the airport until 1:25 for my flight to houston, and once I'm in houston only an hour and a half to get through customs and to my gate for my flight to okc. if all goes well I'll probably just barely make it. but on one of the busiest travel days of the year, I'm going to try my best to make the flight... ugh.
I'm all packed up and ready just the clothes I'm wearing tonight I'll throw in the suitcase and then I have my clothes ready to put on in the morning before going to school for teacher devotions before school. I was asked to speak so I'll talk about when I worked here and the hardships of adjusting and the joy overall of the experience and what I see in the students today etc... blah.
I can't WAIT TO GET BACK. for one thing its been really cold here and there is no indoor heat and air so when you get out of the shower its really cold. oh and the showers here are one nozzle, you turn it on, and the pressure turns a motor in the shower head that heats the water, so you have to sort of make it turn slow enough to get the hottest but fast enough to turn the thing... did I ever mention in this country you can't flush the toilet paper so it goes in the wastebasket. common in central america actually, but you get used to flushing and then wiping, tomorrow it will be back to normal, for me.
when you travel you always have to tell yourself what is normal to you may not be normal where you are going. ALWAYS ALWAYS remember when traveling that different is NOT WRONG it's just different. ever country is different, doesn't mean they are gay or uptight or dirty or backwards or germaphobes or stupid ....whatever you want to say about any country, stop being such an American for a while and enjoy the new experiences and culture around you in that country! things may take a lot longer and nothing might make any sense, but that's just the way it is in some places, adjust!
ok enough of that, I'm off to the bus stop, wish me luck getting a bus down the hill and then a safe taxi. have I mentioned that twice since I've been here a teacher at the school has been held up at gunpoint for their cellphone.. .ugh
I can't wait to get home and see what I bought while on my travel through europe and to senegal. it all went by so fast and I haven't had time to get back stop and gel and think about it all... ha. I've got a lot of resting to do this weekend, and then get some WORK!!!
I'm also going to try and contact some former "buds" in okc if possible, and my all time personal goal is no hookups from craigslist, holiday weekends are the best for online hookups, anyone ever notice that??? i plan to just spend time with the family and my house and not do the online cruise thing. but seriously, has anyone else ever noticed how many more guys are looking around during the breaks??? I always find some good responses and chat from guys in town or out of town etc...
