wednesday

the teacher at work who is going to Afghan. told me the guy I emailed was impressed by my resume. however, there is still no time frame for when the project might start. SO that's pretty strange. right now I'm aiming to join up with the program maybe next year. because I honestly don't see myself leaving here in a month. Of course I guess it will really all depend on the $$$ negotiated. ha.

I went to a tailors in OKC today to order a suit. dark charcoal grey with subtle grey pin stripes, very normal and understated I think. what do I know about suits? I teach at a public school in Oklahoma.
why the suit? well, I decided to go visit my bud in Austin for fall break. The organization he works for is having their huge fundraiser that weeekend so he emailed me back saying bring a tux or dark suit to wear. (yeah, like I have a tux, well there is the one from Cathedral Choir in college. ha..) I never did get a suit last summer after realizing I lacked one for my grand dad's funeral. SO I'm hoping now that I'll get it back in time to wear to my ex's funeral. I'm also concentrating on a real nice white dress shirt to wear with a tie etc...
I am planning on wearing the suit on the plane so I can travel with my new carry-on bag (the Monocle one). OH yeah the best thing is a secretary at school is letting me use one her husbands passes so I'm making the trip on $20. SHWEET.

I added some labels to some posts, it will take me a while to label all the past posts, but someone let me know what you think about the labels. I thought it'd be a nice way to find favorite old pics posted etc...

and now for something completely different....

foreskin shame anyone?

ambiguous replies

I got an email back from the guy who is working with the contract from lockhheed for the ESL prograam in afgghanistan. (by the way, I purposely put in extra letters so my blog won't come up in some web search and out myself, not that it would, but you never know......anyway..)
so the guys email said:
"You certainly have the qualifications we are seeking for this project."
and tons of info about the year long contract etc etc etc... and then:
"There has not been an award, so I am unable to discuss salaries. However, I am sure that when it is appropriate we can negotiate a very satisfactory compensation package while you are in Afghanistan."
followed by, "best regards, #N#K#J#J$"
so nothing about when it starts, where we are trained, when I'll hear from him again etc etc..
very strange but I figure I do fit the need for teachers, so it prolly hinges on when the red tape and govt contract gets all worked out, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be doing it this year, but he does mention in the email that after the first year, the program would only expand in numbers of students and teachers. SWEET so hope for the future.
also the teacher whowas recruiting me at my school to do this said I should definitely try for 150k in negotiations.
SO is Dan ready to live overseas again and have an adventure? i dunno..........

lots of news on the illegal immigration front today, about job hiring enforcement, but I'm going to hit the sack and spare you all my opinions. ha! Although I will mention one interesting comment on NPR a guy made about when they changed labor laws and all the corporations said not allowing children to work in industry would kill our economy, yet somehow the jobs WERE FILLED. What is gas where you live? 2.65 here in OKC
and a gallon of milk? just under $4. here. yes, these things interest me.

roomie not home tonight so I"m playing some "spring awakening" soundtrack as loud as I want and singing along and enjoying the place to myself before bed. ALthough I sort of miss the guy, he's very consistent in always asking how was my day everytime I come home. pretty nice for a guy who doesn't say much, him, I mean.

wasn't a great start...........

left work Friday all excited for the weather in the 70, wanting to get home, go running, do some yardwork, relax! etc.. and I DID do all that but AFTER I was pulled over and slapped with a ticket for speeding. my bad. I was going 58 in a 45 but he wrote it for 55 so I'd be only up to 10 miles over and $160, so it saved me 50 bucks. I took a shirt back to J crew the next day, and then I found a paycheck I hadn't cashed yet from some work I did a while back, so that made up for about $110 of the ticket. dang it all! I'm sort of tight when it comes to money, like I do dumb little things like take aluminum cans back for recycling, and I'll always try to keep under or around 65 on the highway to save on gas, and buy groceries so I'm not always eating out. stuff like that, anyway, the speeding ticket just blows it, I got careless I'll admit.

volunteered saturday morning, ran 3 miles afterwards, then atelunch at the art museum, lately I'm getting the italian sandwich instead of the Tilapia lunch. Next, the Botero exhibit there. It is AWESOME. had some good chattiing with you fellow bloggers this weekend, always nice.

also watched some Extras DVD's , the HBO show with Ricky Gervais. Oh yeah and I got a call from my FLorida bud I met the spring break before last, anyone who's read that long ago.

Today I sent my resume to the language institute that is being contracted by Lockheed for the teachingjob in Afghanistan. I REALL REALLY need a change in my life right now, but seriously does it have to be wartorn Afghanistan of all places? ha!

lifeguard....over here.....

Murakami in Los Angeles

i was shopping flights tonight for LA. I like the idea of traveling to a destination for an event or scheduled festival. There is a show at the art museum there I'd enjoy seeing. Murakami, Japanise "pop" art. from Japan, it's a concept of "high" pop art, sort of trying to make the manga cartoon style more respected art not just cartoon etc, something like that. I've liked this artist's style for some time. To those of you in LA I hope you get a chance to branch out and check out the exhibit.
