mi ami..........

I'm in New York City. Can't wait to post a pic of this French guy I sat by on the plane, we chatted it up on the plane, and damn did he look good sleeping next to me. ON THE PLANE, that is. anyway, I know in some other life we could be really great friends. His English was not great, he was coming from seeing his girlfriend in Mexico, so we spoke some English and mainly Spanish. was a lot of fun. we shared a cab and he helped me find my hotel and everything. So hot, if only I'd had the balls to ask his email. at least i got a pic. went to whitney tonight, a bit back and forth on the subway, I went to wrong direction a few times, oh well. I just took 10 minutes here in the lobby to check my email, and now I'm leaving to find the gym sports bar and walk down the street of bars in Chelsea just to check it out. in 9:30 so the night is young as they say.......

letterman......

just saw the cast from "Spring awakening" perform on letterman, sweet! I'm excited to think I'm going to see them in person Saturday right there in NY. 2 days away.... all right enough enough already....

2 days....

not much going on tonight, trying to make myself take just two change of clothes and keep the smaller carry-on, I think I can do it. It's going to be COLD in NY this weekend, rain Friday, but SUNNY on Sat which is good but still high of 45.... I'd like to pack about 3 coats and jackets but nah.
I found the New York Comic Con is in NYC this weekend, and also a NewYorkTimes Travel Show at the convention center, but I'm not even going to try and plan too much because once I'm there I'll prolly just find tons to check out just walking around. I am going to try to make the Fountain New York art fair definitely.

and yeah I can find anything on a map and will be subwaying back and forth and walking around no problem, I figure if I can handle a bus and taxi system in a third world country and the underground in london I should be all righ, I've just got to remember to stick with only two alcoholic drinks. especially since Oklahoma beer is only 3.5% so I'm not used to the stronger stuff. we shall see. later.

HIP-HOP Beyond Beats and Rhymes.....

Dan recommends on PBS tv tonight...

HIP-HOP: Beyond Beats and Rhymes takes an n-depth look at machismo in rap music and hip-hop culture—where creative genius, poetic beauty and mad beats collide with misogyny, violence and homophobia. Produced in association with ITVS and NPBC.

or check the website here for more information

heard about it on NPR today and plan to watch as I am always interested in what makes men tick and what we consider masculine and why etc etc etc. Oh yeah also I agree with the filmaker that something is wrong when it's "right" or "cool" to sing about killing another rapper and the song is accepted as ok, don't even get me started on drugs or treatment of women....

3days----

receiving some emails and a few comments, thanks tons for the ideas.
I have decided I can't paln too much to try and do, so the statue of liberty is out, yankees stadium, ground zero, no time. I will go to to grand central station just to see it, and maybe eat a meal there. I also have found a lot of museums are free on Friday evening so that will always be an open option. also there is an alternative art festvial at the Armory taking plane this weekend. very cool. and I will try to find the Gym SPorts Bar while in NYC.
I worked backs and shoulders today for an hour, and then arms and chest Thursday and I'll be good to go for my flight out Friday morning, I have decided to take a taxi from the airport jsut to save time, although most people have told me the bus is safe, just takes a lot longer (and a lot cheaper). I've got my credit paid down to zero, and bringing $300 cash. hopefully enough for one good weekend.

one more thing, I'm going to the movie theatre at the art museum downtwon, they are showing all the oscar nominated action and animated short films. shoudl be very cool. I go every year so this year I couldn't miss it so I took off from work so I could check it out Thursday night.

also I had a visitor last night. He had just finished working out at the private college I live near. big tattooed ex football player at the school he just turned 23 last weekend. he just stopped in as I was watching the news before bed for a quick thrill, and to say hello and all that etc.....

Bole to Harlem

I got this cd from amazon.com on Friday last week and have been listening to it all weekend. Very cool mix of Ethiopian beats and NY dj mix. number 7 my favorite. anyway, someone posted this home made movie with a song from the album.

work out

Dan's favorite things 2 .............

This gymbag. I got this at the Tate Museum of Modern Art in London when I went on a trip there the summer of 2001 before 9/11. It was a blast. I also remember eating lunch at the restuarant and ordering "corn fed" hens. The one small thing I decided to purchase at the museum gift shop was this drawstring bag for 10 pounds. I just liked the simplicity of it. I didn't really use it at all until about a year and a half ago when a drawstring gym bag became cool for soccer guys to use and I noticed students carrying 'em at the school I teach at , so I started using mine. It really is perfect for just my shoes, shorts, t-shirt and socks. It's also a great reminder that I once was overseas in the mother country in big city London.

another cool brit song i like...........

has a cool party sound........

4 days counting down.....

well I've gotten a few emails and suggestions concerning NYC, so that is pretty cool. I'm ready more or less for the trip, I know what I'm wearing Friday and Saturday, and same thing from Friday on Sunday, or hopefully buy some new clothes while up there. I like having one small carry on for the trip out, but coming back I think it's easier to take a train to the airport and i have a direct flight from NJ to OKC so maybe I'll have something to check in if I shop much while up there. I don't know if I'll have time though I want to see a lot of art museums and sites while I'm just walking around in general.
A guy from Dallas who lives there has contacted me so that is cool, also CH who used to date my Austin buddy. He'll be seeing the show w/ me. some guy told me to check out the G lounge Friday night, and maybe SBNY, but I'm not sure if that's going to be my scene really. So let me know if there is any particular laid back gay bars, for example Overnight in New York mentions Sports bar, so maybe I'll try to find that one at least one of my nights there.
I'm pretty pumped, I've decided to get to sleep by 10:30 all this week so I'll get a good 8.5 hours of sleep a night so as to rest up for the city that never sleeps. ha.

run forrest.........

getting packed..........

well I found my carry on bag and I've set two pairs of shoes aside, a coat and two pairs of jeans, one casual and one more dressy, I'll bring one coat and an umbrella and then stuff a few shirts in and Im good to go. more or less.
I spoke with CH in NYC. he is the ex boyfriend of my bud in Austin. he's lived in NY for 5 years now and is going to the show with me on Saturday afternoon. SHWEET. so I'm excited to see someone there who knows the town. He also told me NOT to take the buses from la Guardia to manhattan. so I guess I'll just break out $40 and budget in the taxi ride. I arrive at 1pm so hopefully I'll get to the hotel by 3PM? and then I'll jsut hit the streets after that and do whatever.. ahh yeah!! I'll be researching all week prolly of things to hit while there. Any suggestions at all are WELCOME. comment now or shoot an email my way. for example give me the name of a club to check out on Friday or Saturday night. For now I just plan to sort of go along with this walking tour mapped out in my "Time Out" guide to NY for all day Saturday, of course I'll interrupt in for the 2pm show. Sunday If I'm not out too late the night before I think I'd like to find a historic church to attend maybe. My ex college roomate has a dad who wa a pastor in Brooklyn, so I might try their church, because the Steve Keene gallery is in Brooklyn and I plan to hit it on Sunday afternoon. hope everyone had a great weekend, hopefully some good weekend posts out there to read this week.now, go ahead.....leave a comment.

shirtless party weekend
